Overview: Storm grew up on a farm in the rural country of Western Pennsylvania. From the age of seven and well into her adult years she worked as a farmhand: tending livestock, working the fields, riding and training horses and caring for stray dogs her mom would bring home. In addition to her duties at home, she worked as a nursing assistant during her teen years and attended college for Food Service Management after graduating high school. She later left the nursing field to work as a cook until marrying her husband of twenty-five years.
Today, she and her husband share their home with three Maltese. Having been involved in animal rescue for over a decade, she had at one time, nine dogs in her home.
“Animals are the most loyal companions I have ever known,” she says. Some who know her say Storm is a “dog whisperer”. However, when asked about these claims, Storm replies, “I don’t know about that. I just know how to communicate with animals, I’m not a psychic. I’ve always had a knack for helping troubled animals.” After losing her therapy dog in July 2011, she suffered a major setback. With the support of loving friends and family, and a special Maltese named, Cuppycake, she found her way back to writing and believes that her beloved Austin is still lighting her way.
