Nebula Awards #24: SFWA’s Choices for the Best Science Fiction and Fantasy 1988 by Michael Bishop
Requirements: .PDF reader, 11 mb
Overview: The Nebula Awards are the Oscars of science fiction. Selected by the members of the Science Fiction Writers of America, the Nebulas have been awarded annually since 1965 for the best novel, novella, novelette, and short story and represent what science fiction writers themselves consider the best of their best. And just as the Nebula Awards have grown in recognition and prestige over the years, the Nebula Awards anthology has established itself as the statement of where science fiction is and where it is headed, the showcase of the finest in the field.

The diversity and high quality so widely praised in previous volumes are both here in Nebula Awards 24. The winning novella, novelette, and short story are reprinted in full, as are several of the Nominees in those categories. There are original essays by Lois McMaster Bujold, winner of the Nebula for her novel Falling Free, and Paul Di Filippo; tributes to two science fiction greats who died in 1988, Robert Heinlein and Clifford Simak; and an appreciation of the tenth person designated a Grand Master by the SFWA, Ray Bradbury. Once again, Ian Watson graces the anthology with his assessment of the science fiction and fantasy published over the year, and Bill Warren delivers his provocative and entertaining thoughts on how Hollywood handled—and mishandled—science fiction. The inclusion of the three winners of the Rhysling Award for poetry round out the collection and make Nebula Awards 24 a true reflection of the best of the year.
