Overview: Raymond Eugene Banks, born in Missouri on November 8, 1918, was an U.S. businessman. He began his writing career by submitting a short story to Esquire in 1946; which was rejected as not being of genre interest. Banks started over by writing the short story “Never Trust an Intellectual” for Dynamic Science Fiction in June 1953. Over the next two decades he would publish thirty-seven more short stories for many of the popular sf pulp magazines.
Banks published several well-received novels in the late 1970s into the 1980s; predominantly being “hard sf” or “space opera” in nature.
In addition to authorship under his full name, his writings were issued under shorter forms such as “Ray Banks”, “Ray E. Banks”, “R.E. Banks” as well as under the pen name “Fred Freair”.
Raymond E. Banks passed away on August 3, 1996 in Los Angeles, California.
