Mma Precious Ramotswe becomes a private detective, the first woman in Botswana to enter that profession, and opens an agency whose name indicates this unique situation.

Mma Ramotswe is experiencing staffing difficulties. First Mr. J.L.B. Mate-koni asks to be put in charge of a case involving an errant husband. But can a man investigate such matters as successfully as the number one lady detective can?
9. 2008 The Miracle at Speedy Motors. "Miracle at Speedy Motors" continues in the same languid vein of the previous books. We follow Mma Ramotswe throughout her adventures in Botswana and at her place of business right next to Speedy Motors on the Tlokweng Road. Mma Ramotswe works on one case throughout this book of a woman looking for her relatives.

12. 2011 The Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party. At a remote cattle post south of Gaborone two cows have been killed, and Precious Ramotswe, Botswana’s No. 1 Lady Detective, is asked to investigate by a rather frightened and furtive gentleman. It is an intriguing problem with plenty of suspects including, surprisingly, her own client. To complicate matters, Mma Ramotswe is haunted by a vision of her dear old white van, and Grace Makutsi witnesses it as well. Is it the ghost of her old friend, or has it risen from the junkyard?
13. 2012 The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection. In Botswana, Precious’s assistant detective Grace’s new husband Phuti suggests Academy name to Clovis Andersen, visiting author of their constant reference. Their three puzzles are: mechanic apprentice Fanwell fixes stolen car, board member Ditso fires orphan mother Potokwane, and Phuti’s builder is bankrupt, yet builds himself the best.
