Overview: Not every forest has a protector. Some say that some forests hide giants, others fairies or even enchanted stags or unicorns to guard them from human cruelty. So it was a great surprise for young Mr Darcy to discover that the forest near his family’s estate, Pemberley, had a genuine druid as its guardian. The boy didn’t know much about druids, nor did he suspect what secrets such a magical being held or how useful it would be to have gained the friendship of a strange and gentle older man who had shown clear evidence of knowing and protecting the forest. He couldn’t even ask his father about it, for he had promised the druid, on his word as a gentleman, not to mention a word to Mr George Darcy about their miraculous encounter in the woods. Darcy would have told his mother, but it would have worried her too much, and she wouldn’t have allowed him to wander through the forest again, not even accompanied by his cousin James or Mr Watkins, the fencing master.
I wish I could tell you more, but the extraordinary meeting with Miss Elizabeth Bennet won’t occur until 18 years later. But if you are patient, I promise you will enjoy it.
