Overview: Philip Hughes was born in Dallas Texas into a large family-four brothers and one sister. Each child was home schooled by their mother at an early age. When his mother threw the family T.V. in a dumpster, Philip’s forms of entertainment grew sparse. All that was left was the family library and his imagination. So, when he cracked open The Hobbit at the tender age of six, his love for fantasy blossomed. He began to create his own stories inspired by the books he read-sticks became his swords, birds became dragons, and cardboard boxes became his castles. When he began studying creative writing at SMU, it was the stories of his childhood that stirred him to write Miraclist. Philip still lives in North Dallas where he spends his time writing the rest of the Miraclist series.
Genre: YA Fantasy
1. Miraclist
Daniel is an orphan with a prestigious and ghastly past—a past he knows nothing about. He is the sole survivor of the royal family, the rest murdered by the monk-turned-politician, Specula Greavus. When he discovers he is a Miraclist, able to bend the elements to his will, he is plucked from his dilapidated orphanage and thrust into a school of heroes in-training. Little does he know that wicked forces eye his throne. With the fate of the Empire in the balance, only the true heir can thwart their terrible scheme.
2. Guardian
Seven months have passed since the Arena Massacre. Thousands of Miraclists lie dead, and with the loss of its elite fighting force, the Empire shakes with instability. Senator Greavus is building an army. Cries of revolution rise from the south, and the goblin tribes mobilize to the north. With Orsidia on the brink of destruction, the world looks to the remaining Miraclists for aid. Brightcastle Hall has its new Guardians, but suspicion and fear threaten to tear the school apart. Conspiracies fly over Jude Elm and his connection with the Cythes. Caden Baine is missing, and the succession of the second-place Gregory McPherson stirs doubt. But one question haunts them above all: when will the Cythes strike again? Now, Daniel and his friends must rise among the remnant Miraclists and prove themselves not just as leaders, but heroes. For only Orsidia’s mightiest can hope to stand against the rising darkness.
