Marshal Faks Cahirr had cheered alongside the watchers, yet he’d gazed with trepidation across the prairie at Erroc Palace. When Shepherdess Hermuna learned the young soldier had a familiar head wound, she’d fear their impending doom.
Mid-morning, Faks waited for Hermuna inside the palace near a Mersoonite marble staircase. He’d go with her to the watchers meeting hall to hear reports of recent border attacks.
In the armory, Prince Knoel adjusted his embroidered headband carefully hiding his ears. He studied a list scrawled on a slate the armorer gave him. Erroc weapons consisted of fine handmade swords, knives and a dwindling supply of decades-old Cora pistols. Carved from Cora Gulf’s white stone, Jymirr designed them. Except for Cora pistols and a solar power plant, his mother had banned most other Jymirr technology inside Royal Village.
