Overview: As for the puzzles in this book, I make one particular request
to the reader: please don’t take my solutions too much on trust.
Like chess problems, puzzles–even those set by the eminent and
excellent—can quite often be ‘cooked’. I have checked what I say
with some care, and I haven’t consciously cheated, but I shall be
surprised if I haven’t made mistakes. And I really should like to
hear from anyone who disagrees with an answer I have given, or
can improve on it.
