Mark of Mars Series (1-2) by Juliet Anderson
Requirements: epub/mobi Reader, 1.2MB
Overview: Juliet lived in rural West Sussex almost all of her childhood before moving to Bath, which is still one her favourite cities in the world. She has long been a fan of ancient cultures, something which Bath might have influenced.
Her favourite activities are horse riding and trailing around ancient sites (it’s where the inspiration comes from).
Genre: Sci-Fi/Fantasy
01. Mark of Mars: When Jenna joined the elite McVale Institute, she never dreamt she and her fellow students would be sent back in time to study in Ancient Rome. But not even time travel could prepare her for the series of events that occur after she touches a statue of Mars.
Jenna’s aim is to keep a low profile but when she runs into Senator Aurelius, Rome’s leading senator, within her first few minutes of arrival, and then picks a fight with Marshall of the Peace Marcus Vilnus later that day, she realises her trip is going to be anything but smooth. Despite being in a male dominated society, Jenna can’t bring herself to lose her twenty-first century attitude; meek and subservient aren’t words in her vocabulary.
Jenna isn’t the only one hiding her true identity. Marcus, Aurelius and the rest of their family are Roman Gods living as mortals. Marcus realises very early on that Jenna is no ordinary mortal. She possesses a power no mortal should not have; she has the ability to kill a God. Marcus and Aurelius know Jenna is from another world; can they really turn down the opportunity to learn about time travel? Marcus finds that keeping the streets trouble free is a lot easier than trying to control an outspoken time traveller.
With lots of sword fighting, horse racing, heated arguments, sibling rivalry and an assassination plot to foil, life is anything but dull for Jenna and Marcus.
Then there’s the small matter of her troublesome birthmark.
02. Blood Never Lies: Jenna is back in Rome and finding that her relationship with Marcus has more ups and downs than a rollercoaster. Not only does she have to contend with Marcus’ family trying to play matchmaker, she has to try to come to terms with some rather startling news about her birth and the meaning of that tiresome insignia on her back. Then there’s the small issue of her abduction. If that wasn’t enough, the dreams she keeps having about Mars are starting to turn rather too realistic for her liking.
Marcus is struggling to keep his temper under control as he tries to tame Jenna. He starts to realise that being the God of War counts for absolutely nothing with her. His patience, courage and feelings are sorely tested.
Will her mind ever be able to accept the reality of the Roman Gods? With his brothers taking a keen interest in Jenna, will Mars be able to fulfil his prophecy? With squabbling deities, plenty of plotting and a visit to the dreaded Colosseum, life on the streets of Rome is anything but dull for Jenna and her friends.
