1. Maggie Needs An Alibi
Maggie Kelly is nothing if not resilient. She bounced back after getting fired from her old job as a writer of historical romances, reinventing herself as a mystery author. She bounced back when she discovered her lover–who also happened to be her publisher–cheating on her. But something just happened that’s got tough-talking, quick-thinking Maggie swooning into her super-soft sofa cushions. Something in the form of an incredibly sexy Englishman by the name of Saint Just. Tall, dark, handsome, with an accent to die for and charm to spare, he’s everything she’s ever dreamed of in a man. There’s just one problem. He is her dream man. He’s the character who’s made her a bestselling author. He’s not real. However, now he’s actually standing in the middle of Maggie’s apartment–with the adorable, bumbling sidekick she created expressly for him right by his side. But just as Maggie’s getting used to her new houseguests, things start to get quite a bit more complicated–in the "homicide" sense of the word. It seems her ex-lover, Kirk Toland, has had the nerve to die right there in her living room. . .of poisoning. . .after eating a dinner Maggie made. And if that weren’t weird enough, Toland’s death is followed by the murder of a colleague whom everyone knows Maggie hated. So now, the mystery writer has become the murder suspect. And the only sleuth who’s really on Maggie’s side is the one she invented!
2. Maggie by the Book
When Maggie Kelly’s career writing historical romances tanked, the unbelievable happens and an incredibly sexy Englishman by the name of Alexandre Drake, Viscount Saint Just enters her life. There’s just one problem, he’s not real. He’s the character who’s made her a bestselling author. For some reason he’s standing in the middle of her apartment, along with the bumbling sidekick, Balder, she created for him. So, when a publisher of a leading romance magazine is found dead, it’s up to Maggie, Saint Just and Balder to find out who the murderer is.
3. Maggie Without A Clue
I’ve got a successful career, a great apartment, a fascinating man… and all I want is to curl up on the sofa with my cats and a bag of Funyuns. What’s wrong with this picture?
I should be enjoying the company of Alexandre Blake, Viscount St. Just, hero of my historical mystery novels… but ever since Alex and his sidekick, Sterling, materialized in my living room, I’ve been dodging dead bodies. The news that the dynamic duo had gotten their own place was music to my ears–until the symphony ended with a hysterical phone call from Bernie Toland-James, my recently widowed (as in: just woke up next to the bloody corpse of her estranged husband) publisher…
See? This is what I’m talking about.
Things look bad for Bernie, who’d made no secret of the fact that she wasn’t too broken up when Buddy "disappeared" seven years ago. Meanwhile, Sterling’s been on the receiving end of some weird threats…
OK, this just got personal. Messing with my friends? Bad move. Messing with my friends while I’m going through nicotine withdrawal? Watch out.
What with trying to sleuth, quit smoking, evade my therapist’s more pointed questions, and meet my latest deadline, I’m a woman on the edge. Now, with the clock ticking on Bernie’s freedom and Sterling’s safety, it’s time to get down to business with Alex (no, not that kind of business… well, maybe a little) and get a clue…
4. High Heels And Homicide
Don’t get me wrong–there was plenty to laugh about when we first arrived in Merry Olde England to watch one of my novels being shot as a major motion picture. Alex was delighted with the location (a seventeeth-century manor house), but horrified with the surfer-dude mimbo playing him. I, personally, found the situation hilarious…then the leading lady started rubbing up against "my" hero, leaving me no choice but to start a little flirtation of my own with the lord of the manor’s nephew. It was all very Regency House Party until the scriptwriter showed up…dead. Things are suddenly getting hot and heavy between Alex and me — and their timing is atrocious as usual, what with the murder and mayhem. Suspects? Don’t get me started. There’s Mr. Contemptuous Director, Ms. Man-Crazy Production Assistant, Mr. Fancy Pants English Actor, Ms. Diva Leading Lady, and…yours truly. Yep, I was seen arguing with the victim right before his unfortunate demise, so I am, as the Brits would say, in a bit of a pickle.
5. High Heels and Holidays
Mystery author Maggie Kelly is getting ready to celebrate her first Christmas with Alexandre, Viscount Saint Just – her once-fictional, but now all too-real sexy hero and boyfriend. But her romantic Christmas plans go haywire when murder decides to deck the halls…There’s nothing I’d rather be doing this time of year then singing Christmas carols while I trim my tree, and snuggling next to my man Alex while we watch "It’s a Wonderful Life" for the umpteenth time. But this season, it seems some Grinch with a really bad sense of humour is delivering packages of rotting rats and death threats to me and the other authors who contributed to the mystery collection No Secret Anymore. Sure, even I’ll admit the book was terrible. But why can’t this sicko just go to the bookstore and get a refund? It’s Christmas, buddy – not Halloween! But then Jonathan West – the brainchild of No Secret Anymore – turns up dead, and me and Alex aren’t so sure anymore that the murderer is a just a disgruntled reader…Jonathan had finally completed a new novel, which his agent claimed to be his best. This leads us to think maybe a jealous rival is the killer – that is, until two of Jonathan’s obsessed fans surface. So now the we’re scrambling to solve this mystery before eight writers – including yours truly – don’t live to see the New Year…
6. Bowled Over
Mystery author Maggie Kelly had enough on her mind wondering how she was going to keep her fictional Regency Era creation from dropping to one knee with a marriage proposal. Then a murderer crosses the foul line-way too close to home … Another day, another crime scene. Maggie wouldn’t mind putting a little distance between herself and the hunky Regency hero of her novels, Alexandre Blake, the Viscount Saint Just, who has miraculously come to life with talk of sweeping her straight down the aisle. But now that her parents have split up, Maggie is having trouble resisting Alex’s tender loving care. So she invites him along to visit her family. Unfortunately, they arrive just in time to watch her father being taken away in handcuffs as a murder suspect! Thank goodness she has her very own romance hero. The local police are convinced Evan Kelly has killed his bowling buddy, who happened to be having an affair with Maggie’s mom. It doesn’t help that Evan’s bowling ball was found next to the dead body. Her dad may have had motive, but Maggie knows he’s definitely no killer. Luckily, she has Alex riding to the rescue-and making her wonder if a happily ever after might not be out of her league after all…
