1. Murder in Hampstead
A locked-room mystery about a seemingly impossible crime. When lawyer-turned-interior designer Lucia Steer accepts a lucrative job renovating Beatrice Hall, a large house owned by a professor in a north London suburb, she has no idea of the impact it will have on her career. No, not a full page spread in Vanity Fair, but the repercussions of her employer dropping stone dead during an afternoon party. It is clear the victim was poisoned. But how? And by whom? Occurring pretty much in a closed room, anyone there could have been responsible for the murder. When clumsy detective David Carliss turns up to investigate, he is overwhelmed and out-gunned by the high profile people at the party. Any of whom might, apparently, want the professor dead. Lucia’s over-inquisitive nature and legal training leads her to offer Carliss a helping hand. And her eavesdropping and foray into amateur sleuthing will be invaluable. Especially as Lucia is used to getting her way and even more driven when she doesn’t.
2. Murder on the Heath
Can ex-lawyer turned civilian investigator Lucia Steer solve an impossible murder? The apparent cool, calm and collectedness of a relationship counsellor, or ‘coach’ as Alec Penney called himself, is dealt a severe blow when he ends up dead on his office floor. For all his sage advice, Alec Penney apparently electrocuted himself on a dodgy coffee maker. Well, at least that’s the theory until Lucia Steer, civilian investigator with Kentish Town CID, visits the scene. Female intuition combined with an eagle eye leads Steer to convince senior detective DCI David Carliss that a murder has taken place. Out of the many people seen going in and out of the office just before the estimated time of death, who was responsible? Can Steer work out the mystery before the killer covers their tracks?
3. Murder in Kentish Town
A murder disguised as suicide presents a challenge for a sharp investigator. When London police come across the body of a young woman, dead in her bathtub, it looks like a classic case of suicide. However, for deft civilian investigator Lucia Steer, something about the scene raises suspicions. Sure, the woman, Genevieve Taylor, was lonely and overworked, but Lucia is convinced there is a more sinister explanation. As a young associate in a law firm that helps fraudsters escape justice, Genevieve may have been the victim of an old client with an axe to grind. Or could one of the eccentric members of the literary club she frequented have put an end to her promising life? With multiple suspects in the frame Lucia, herself an ex-lawyer, must cut through veils of secrecy to catch a killer.
