6. Luc Bertrand: Assassin’s Mentor
After a disastrous confrontation with the Order of Hell in Vienna, Luc Bertrand has finally given up on vengeance. It’s time to start over. Luc has accepted the position as headmaster for the East Coast Assassin Academy, a struggling school in Washington, D.C. Discipline is lax, the faculty uncaring or overwhelmed, and morale is at rock bottom. It’s Luc’s job to turn it around. Now a stranger in a new country, Luc finds himself facing his biggest challenge yet: professional and amateur assassins who do not want him there.
7. Luc Bertrand: Assassin’s Tool
Things are finally going Luc’s way. The East Coast Assassin Academy is well in hand. His students and faculty are well-trained and respectful. He’s definitely gone above and beyond the expectations of the Global Head of the Assassin’s Guild. He’s done too well. Now, they’re assigning him even more responsibility. The guildhall at Washington, D.C. has fallen. All the assassins there are dead. It’s up to Luc to build a new central hub. He’s now bogged down in bureaucratic red tape. He’s understaffed for a guildhall and has no idea the extent of his new job description. Worse, a contract has come in that is proving far more trouble than it should be. Mostly because every time he gets close to his target, a stranger gets in his way. Someone is tracking him and keeping him from doing his job. If he can’t complete one simple assassination, how is he supposed to manage both a school and a guildhall?
8. Luc Bertrand: Assassin’s Deity
Luc’s life became ridiculously complicated when Tom Statford came barreling into it. Even his disbelief in the divine has come into question. Luc gave up on God years ago when his family was murdered and their house left to burn to the ground. Statford tricked him into making a vow to a pagan goddess that he would never kill innocents. Not that Luc believed in this "Insidia." He can’t ignore that something inexplicable is stopping him from carrying out contracts. What is it that’s keeping Luc from doing his job? There has to be some reasonable explanation.
9. Luc Bertrand: Assassin’s Keeper
Since he was a teenager, master assassin Luc Bertrand has felt as though it’s him versus the world. But the words of the Goddess of Discord and Treachery are sticking with him: "You could do with some friends." Perhaps it is time to give in and trust someone. But does he really want to trust the one other person who knows the gods are real? A friendship with Thomas Statford might be more trouble than it’s worth.
10. Luc Bertrand: Assassin’s Kin
Luc’s past and present are warring for dominance. Two years ago, Luc let his quest for vengeance against the Knights Templar and the Order of Hell disrupt his duty. He failed in his promise to protect Thomas Statford, and that same day, the whole multi-pantheon of deities joined the mortal realm. Since then, Luc has tried to care for the world as well as he can. However, unanswered questions from twenty years ago still plague him. New information has cropped up that may finally give him peace. Just who was Ahimoth, the Templar who tried to recruit him as a youth? And what of Insidia, the goddess Luc is beholden to? Why has she not made herself known to him since the Fall of the Gods? And where in all the gods’ hells is Thomas?
