Overview: Annie Abraham finds herself at a crossroads, having lost her job and her girlfriend, leading her to the inevitable decision of returning to her parents’ home. Her small hometown in Montana, a place she scarcely visited since that memorable summer before her final year in college, calls her back. That was the summer she babysat for Laurel Jacobs and unexpectedly fell in love. Years have passed, yet Annie’s heart still clings to the woman she left behind at the age of twenty-one.
Laurel Jacobs, on the other hand, has never fully recovered from her time with Annie. Nearly a decade later, despite her attempts, moving on seems impossible. With her children as her focus, she convinces herself they’re the reason she’s avoided dating since Annie’s departure. Back then, Laurel was navigating a divorce, raising two young children, and uncertain about her future. Now, she’s a bookstore owner, her children are older, and her life is too hectic for romantic entanglements.
Annie’s return to Deer Pines was supposed to allow her time to adjust, yet fate has other plans. The very first person she encounters is Laurel, right after a long seventeen-hour train journey, in dire need of caffeine. Their reunion, the first in eight years, quickly rekindles old emotions they thought were long buried. Much has changed since their last encounter, more than they both realize. Life, however, offers them a second chance. Their initial love story was ill-timed, but now, they have the opportunity to set things right.
