Overview: I was born and raised on the Arizona desert and grew up on horseback until I was thirty years old. I taught English and media in high school for twenty-seven years. Loving the sound of water I decided to get out the the desert heat and move to the coast of Oregon where I found all the water I wanted. It is lovely. With my partner of forty plus years I opened a bookstore and two bed and breakfasts. And now I write.

1. The Truck Comes on Thursday
The loss of her partner/lover in a friendly fire shooting sends LA police detective Loni Wagner running back to the quiet, safe life she remembered in a small Southern Arizona town. There she joins the Arizona Highway Patrol, assuming that she can stay out of trouble driving her night shift on the peaceful desert roads. And she’s right except for a plane wreck in a graveyard, a serial rapist, a kidnapping, a murder, a freeway pileup during a dust storm, a tornado, dead bodies, drug runners, and human smugglers. And she thought the streets of LA were dangerous.
But it’s what takes place in the light of day that has her life in total disarray as things keep happening in the small town where everybody knows everybody else’s business and where things keep coming back to bite her in the ass. She not only works out of the same police station with high school enemies, she has a red-neck sexist police chief who loads her down with jobs beyond her shift that leave her exhausted and sleep deprived. And, on top of her need to help an old friend with troubles he doesn’t even know he has, she adds her Native Indian grandparents to her worries: her grandmother is not well, and cattle rustling and vandalism on their ranch is about to break them.
Still mourning the death of her partner, Loni makes an effort to connect with other women she finds intriguing—Jenny, the art teacher, and Tory, the new town veterinarian while she also attempts to avoid dealing with Dorothea, her old high school interest. But it’s Lola, the dispatcher at work that Loni believes is straight, who really occupies her mind, the one who challenges Loni to accept what is and to understand what coming home really means.
2. Bus Stop at the Last Chance
Miles to go! Loni Wagner’s second Western adventure finds her transferred from Highway Patrol to a Caliente town cop and a life just as strange and sometimes as dangerous as her former job. Dealing with a loss in her family, a new hire at work, an old solved case that became unsolved, and a murder charge against Manny Sanchez, the brother of her on and off again girlfriend, Lola, Loni’s problems just kept multiplying. On top of this, orders from her old friend and new boss Carl sends her out on the Arizona desert looking for drugs in all the wrong places.
