Overview: Everyone was ordered into the box cars. Isaac, Yuri and Abraham managed to get in early and helped pull men and women up and inside the 4 foot high doorway. Families tossed suitcases and bundles in before climbing up themselves. Isaac didn’t have the heart to tell them not to bother – he suspected everything would be taken from them. As he helped a matronly mother in, she gave him a grunt of thanks. Her daughter held out a smooth, soft hand and he tried to be gentle as he pulled her inside.
When the railcar was packed, the door was slammed and locked from the outside. Isaac wormed his way to the door, which was made of ill-fitting slats, affording some fresh air. He knew what was coming. By tomorrow the stench would be high. There were no waste facilities or water. Since the war was on and the final solution was ordered, most, if not all, of these people would be dead shortly. He looked about and caught the scent of the daughter standing beside him. Isaac looked down and smiled.
“Where are we going?” she asked innocently.
