Requirements: .ePUB reader, 9.87 Mb
Overview: Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It was founded in antiquity. In 714 it was conquered by the Moors, and in 1147, after a siege of more than 4 months, with the help of the crusaders from Europe, the first Portuguese king Dom Afonso Henriques recaptured it from their hands. Its most glorious years are the period of great geographical discoveries from the 15th to the 17th centuries, when it became one of the centers of world trade and the capital of the Portuguese maritime empire.
In 1755, Lisbon was destroyed as a result of a great earthquake, then 60,000 to 90,000 people died. its inhabitants. It was rebuilt under the leadership of the first minister of King José I, Marquis de Pombal, as a modern city with buildings resistant to seismic shocks.
In 1994 Lisbon was the European Capital of Culture, in 1998 it hosted the EXPO World Exhibition, and in 2004 the European Football Championship.
“Lisbon – Fragments of the City” is a photographic record of my stay in Lisbon during the Christmas season in 2005. These are impressions, feelings, experiences – very personal and subjective photographs.
