Jared Fletcher’s life as a beleaguered high school custodian comes to an abrupt end with a simple misstep. He stumbles into one sooner than he anticipates. After sparing a small town elf the lecherous advances of a provincial lord, he flees with her into the dangerous forest known as Duryn. There, he and his travel companion encounter a beautiful redhead who leads them back to her forest city of Virandír. Expecting hospitality, they are instead treated to interrogation. Because a rumor has reached the ears of the elders – Jared is the Maladagathryian, a prophesied savior to the Durynites.
Rather than embrace Jared as a hero, the elders instead attempt to end him quietly. But Jared escapes by way of his strange new abilities. With the help of a curious old bookshop owner, he joins a resistance movement looking to overthrow the oppressive regime. Thus, Jared finds himself leading an army who believe him to be a legend foretold.
Perhaps he is. Every time one of the beautiful women in his party looks at him with wonder in her eyes, he believes it a little more.
