Laos Unanchor Travel Guide – Laos: 5-7 days of exploring Vientiane and Luang Prabang by Chris Backe
Requirements: ePUB Reader, Size: 4 Mb
Overview: 5 to 7 days exploring Laos’ two major cities – Vientiane and Luang Prabang (also spelled Wiang Chan and Louang Prabang, respectively).
With plenty of history and culture to go around, Vientiane offers an excellent introduction to the country. Complete with Siamese and French influences, the Communist party line only mildly affects real life around the country. Between major road improvements and a more focused effort to reach tourists, Laos is quickly emerging as a cheap tourist destination to enjoy while in Southeast Asia, and perhaps even in its own right.
Luang Prabang offers a different look into the Southeast Asian area. The former capital has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site for incorporating the traditional Lao and the colonial French architecture in a virtually seamless way. While there are plenty of temples around for your visual or virtuous enjoyment, I’ll also be taking you to a Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre, along with plenty of shops offering traditional Lao cloths and crafts. A National Museum awaits, as does a night market, a waterfall, some caves, and a whiskey village!
This itinerary focuses on major and minor sights in and around Laos’ two cities, while also recommending restaurants and hotels. Sights include a number of Buddhist temples, museums, and a Beerlao factory tour, while transportation used can include anything from your feet to a rented motorbike or a tuk-tuk.
