- At the time of Sengokujidai in the Muromachi period, Japan was marked by incessant conflicts. It is against this backdrop of violence that many ninja are trained across the country. In the anonymity of this tide of apprentices warriors, Kyoteru faces bullying from his classmates. Of all the physical talent that requires ninja destiny the boy does not control. Its poor performance in training make it the laughingstock of his clan, to the dismay of his father Basho. In order to regain some pride in the eyes of it and prove its value, the boy starts only in a most perilous mission. Fortunately, he can count on the unconditional support of Kageko, her little sister with whom he shares a bond as powerful and strange.
In the 90s, the small Kyoteru victim of extortion, hangs in the tree in his garden. Since then, the tree has never given fresh leaves. Inspired by this tragic event, and his wife Jung Jee Yun imagine the story of children ninjas in feudal Japan. After Okiya Kwaidan and the couple from Korea continues to fuel the catalog Delcourt with this new series published in the Lands of Legends Collection. Located in medieval Japan, the story of Jee-Yun feeds codes, values and terminology of the time. A rich historical context in which violence in stark contrast to the youth of the characters portrayed. Especially if the story calls to follow in the footsteps of this whipping boy overwhelmed by the shame he reflects on his father, this is indeed the small Kageko which is the main interest of this first track. This child of shadow (kage = shadow / ko = child) not only gives the title of this album, but, through his silence, it also displays the desire to not want to join the cruelty of the adult world. While embodying the playfulness and innocence of children, Kageko is thus isolated from reality and creates his own universe. In this way, this extraordinary heroine is the link with the supernatural from the story and keeps the balance between the historical and the many fantasy elements.
Graphically, Jung brings to life a cast of characters very endearing, led by a white ninja of the most intriguing. Decorum also facilitates careful immersion in this world-historical fantasy Asian. If this mouthing contains passages fun (Kyoteru infiltration in the castle of Sozen Yamada) and offers an interesting look at Japan of yesteryear, through the eyes of children, however, the plot still struggling to fully convince.
