1. She Waits: Kate Ryan is a middle-aged, accident prone, ex-private investigator. Emphasis on ‘ex’ as she and her partner gave up their profession after their last case nearly cost both of them, their lives. They wisely decided to limp away with whatever dignity and body parts they had left. Unfortunately, Kate will forever carry the scar to remind her of her folly that nearly took her life and plagues her heart and soul. Vowing never again to let her emotions rule her reason, Kate decides to go back to her first love, free-lance photography. For the next few years, she exists alone in – “My emotionally detached loop,” as Kate proudly calls it. Then all hell breaks loose and Kate drops a loop. Enter young Dr. Maggie Winfield and her adorable Aunt Martha. Kate literally stumbles into their lives one autumn morning and becomes an unwitting participant in their tangled web. Clues unravel in their small little hamlet and old secrets are sadly revealed. Kate’s long forgotten instincts now compel her to untangle this web of deceit. In the midst of all this murder and mayhem, the detached photographer finds herself in a position she never thought she would be in again. It seems the feisty Dr. Winfield is having an unexpected, yet pleasant effect on her. The elusive Kate combines forces with the sarcastic Maggie, as they become the nucleus for this ongoing series.

2. A Nice Clean Murder: A Nice Clean Murder, the second in the Kate Ryan Mysteries series, finds Kate’s brother-in-law, Mac, heir to a small family estate in the wild west of Ireland; bequeathed to him by an uncle he barely knew. Kate finds this a little suspicious, but as her family, she too is excited about Mac’s inheritance. When a young Irishman collapses on Kate’s doorstep, her suspicions are justified. She is now sure that Mac’s Uncle Brian did not ‘accidentally fall off the cliff’ as reported. So, she agrees to accompany Mac and Teri on their trip across the Atlantic. It’s good timing too, since things between Kate and Dr. Maggie Winfield are a little tense-it seems the elusive Kate is still chasing her demons. Join Kate Ryan and her family on a historic, merry romp of murder and betrayal along the romantic, rugged coast of the Emerald Isle.

3. The Trouble With Murder: After a three week photo assignment chasing wild mustangs in the heat of South Dakota, Kate Ryan wants nothing more than a quiet week at her log cabin in the woods. She decides to make it a girls only week and invites her sister Teri, dear Aunt Hannah and Maggie. Kate s nice quiet week turns out to be anything but nice and quiet. Maggie ends up bringing a friend along, causing Kate to grow even more reluctant to acknowledge any feelings she might have for her. But Kate finds a champion in Aunt Hannah, who is determined to see her cynical niece and the elusive Kate together at last. Then something quite troublesome begins to happen on the lake. A violent storm soon leaves them isolated and a body washes up on the beach. Kate finds there are too many suspects and no way out but that s just the trouble with murder…

4. Who’ll Be Dead For Christmas?: A week before Christmas, Kate Ryan moves back into her old neighborhood on the North side of Chicago. Back where she started and ended her P.I. business. Kate purchases a renovated brownstone and she gets it for a song. When Kate finds out that the former tenant, a scientist, was murdered in the kitchen, she understands why she got it so cheap. Is it a coincidence the dead doctor worked at University Hospital with Maggie? When Kate accidentally discovers a journal from the murdered scientist in the brick wall of her fireplace, she realizes it is not. All of the sudden, scientists are dropping like flies. Something very dark and dangerous is happening at University Hospital. Kate now fears for Maggie’s safety all the while wondering who’ll be dead for Christmas?

5. Of Course It’s Murder: Kate Ryan is sent to New England on a photo assignment. Seems her editor’s ex-cousin, the hapless flamboyant Simon Merriweather needs photos of his new Inn for the local travel guide. It was to be a nice quiet week of reflection for Kate. What could go wrong? Enter Kit Parker, Emily Masterson and Rebecca Townsend. Newport, Rhode Island’s old, very old money… The irresistibly delightful elderly friends of Simon arrive for the grand opening. All hell breaks loose one stormy night and what happens? Of course… It’s murder!

6. What Happened in Malinmore: Kate Ryan has no idea who Maureen Costello is or why she flew all the way from Ireland to confront Kate about the death of Maureen’s lover, Dr. Rose Clancy—someone else Kate doesn’t know. Suddenly, Kate, Maggie, and an exuberant Aunt Hannah are flying across the Atlantic back to Ireland with the irritating and hot-tempered Irish police inspector to answer a couple of questions: Was Dr. Clancy’s tumble down the stairs an accident, and why did she have a note clutched in her hand with Kate Ryan’s name on it? Once again, Kate Ryan is tossed into a convoluted mess as she tries to figure out just what happened in Malinmore. The sixth book in the Kate Ryan Mysteries series.

7. A Near Myth Murder: Kate Ryan tests her sanity when she decides to reopen her private investigation business, which she turned away from nearly six years before. In the midst of this, Kate’s old friend and college roommate Jan Cummings dies while on a hiking trip with her sorority sisters. With unusual circumstances surrounding the accident, it becomes the first case for Ryan, Costello, and Winfield Investigations. Yes, Maggie’s adorable aunt, Hannah Winfield, is a partner—hence the test of Kate’s sanity. Reluctantly—very reluctantly—Kate travels to her reunion at Hillcrest College, nestled in the peaceful woods of northern Michigan, in hopes of finding out what happened to Jan. The weekend proves to be anything but peaceful for Kate as she unravels the secret of the ivy-covered walls of her alma mater. The 7th book in the Kate Ryan Mystery

8. It’s Not Always Murder: Things are quiet at Ryan, Costello, and Winfield Investigations. Too quiet. So naturally, Hannah has time to arrange their Chicago neighborhood office; it now looks like a 1940s newsroom, equipped with retro candlestick phones. Kate Ryan can do nothing but watch any control she foolishly thought she had slip away. She tries to concentrate on their first real client, well, clients—a small group who owns businesses down the street from Kate. Toni O’Hara and Alana Sanders own The Rising Sun Café and recently had a break-in. Roxanne Dubois had a similar problem with her tattoo parlor. Oh, and so had Mrs. and Mrs. Chen, who own the Chinese restaurant. And not to be left out, Marty Vincent, another business owner, had the same vandalism problem. With no sign of a forced entry and nothing missing, the police write it off as a prank, but Toni O’Hara is not so sure. Perhaps it’s the frightening pumpkin left in their shop windows. Someone is definitely terrorizing her and the others. While Kate wonders how to handle this, Hannah invites everyone to a benefit dinner at the swanky Drake Hotel. It’s Halloween. It’s rainy, it’s foggy, it’s eerie and creepy; a dead body is all they need. But Hannah, ever the adorable optimist, reminds Kate—it’s not always murder.

9. Recalculated Murder: The 9th installment of the Kate Ryan Mystery series An old friend of Hannah’s leaves her a cryptic voice mail and sends one thing to her—a GPS. Then he turns up dead. Her logical next step? Naturally—call Kate Ryan for help. So, Kate, Hannah, and Maggie travel to New Orleans to try to find out what exactly happened to Walt “Doc” Jenkins. From voodoo to hoodoo, from the swampy bayou to the plush Garden District, join Kate Ryan et al as they invade the Big Easy and retrace Doc’s last days to unravel the convoluted mess he left behind. New Orleans will never be the same.

10. Dead in the Water: In the tenth installment of the series, Kate Ryan is about to pop the question to Maggie. Yes, yes, it’s about time. The question now is where, when, and how? The “why” is evident. So with great trepidation, Kate accepts the help of Maggie’s adorable Aunt Hannah. Together, they will try to answer those questions before Kate has an anxiety attack—not from asking Maggie to marry her, but from Hannah’s help. A nice romantic weekend cruise on Lake Superior should do the trick. Kate figures the worst possible scenario is Maggie jumping overboard. This might be the best idea Hannah has ever had. And Kate wonders how she ever doubted her. Until a passenger dies on the first day of their cruise, and all hell breaks loose. With her plans of a romantic marriage proposal seemingly dead in the water, Kate is now ready to jump overboard—and take Hannah with her.

11. Married to Mayhem: In book eleven, Kate and Maggie are finally going to be married. They’ve given up all control to Hannah, who has decided everything regarding the wedding be a complete surprise to the soon-to-be newlyweds. All Kate and Maggie know is the date, more or less, which has Kate breathing into a paper bag. Everything seems to be going fine until Hannah’s wedding gift is stolen from the antique store a couple of weeks before the wedding. Of course, the antique store belongs to Allison Carson, Maggie’s ex-girlfriend in her hometown of Cedar Lake, Illinois, where Kate first met Maggie and her eccentric yet adorable Aunt Hannah. When mayhem was new, and love was in bloom… Kate reluctantly agrees when Allison asks for her help. What could possibly go wrong?

12. It’s Murder, Dude: In the twelfth installment of the Kate Ryan Mystery series, Kate and Maggie are getting married—again. After the lavish, but not quite legal wedding at Kate’s cabin in the woods, the girls decide to have a quiet ceremony at City Hall in Chicago in November, the day of the seventh game of the World Series for the Chicago Cubs. It would be a great way to celebrate. What could possibly go wrong, besides the possibility of a Cubs loss?
Well, let’s see…Hannah winds up in jail after celebrating outside Wrigley Field, and an old friend Dee Dodd needs help with her ne’er-do-well brother. So Hannah plans Kate and Maggie’s honeymoon on Dee’s dude ranch in Montana. Then they find a body in the snow. And of course, it’s murder, Dude.
Just another typical week in the lives of Kate and Maggie…and Hannah, who suddenly channels the spirit of Roy Rogers, albeit in pearls, much to the dismay of the newlyweds.

13. Stranger Than Murder:In this thirteenth installment, things are changing all around Kate Ryan. Finding out Maureen Costello is returning to Ireland certainly isn’t helping. And now Allison Carson, Maggie’s ex-girlfriend from Cedar Lake, is in the picture. There’s no love lost between her and Kate, but she needs Kate’s help with a missing friend. And Kate can’t blame the friend in the least. No one can blame Kate for not leaping at the chance. But with a gentle nudge from Aunt Hannah, which sends Kate sprawling, Kate reluctantly decides to offer her assistance.
What happens next will change Kate, Maggie, and Aunt Hannah’s lives forever. It’s definitely stranger than murder.
Join the girls in one more mysterious romp. Who knows what the future will bring!
