Overview: John Snell was one of the trio who re-opened the Talyllyn Railway in 1951. This book ,written when the author was in his twenties and first published in 1958, is a family saga based around a Welsh Narrow Gauge Railway.
It is a story of triumphs and troubles & successes and failures amongst the Welsh Hills. It starts when fifteen year old Owen Roberts joined the new railway company building its narrow gauge railway amongst the Welsh slate quarries. Jennie arrived soon after him and the two of them grew old together. Son succeeds father and grandson and great-grandson continue the tale.
John Snell’s wonderful way with words is well complimented by illustrations by G.K. Sewell.
Jennie will appeal to all who enjoy a good tale well told, and remains as evocative now as it was when first published.
