Overview: Lieutenant Jaxson Irons is third generation Naval officer. He was born and bred for the life he was living. He’s a helicopter pilot and damn proud of it.
Jaxon doesn’t have attachment to the many women he has shared his nights with. He knows his place within his family and is the only child to parents who expect perfection and strength. He is expected to follow in his father’s footsteps and he does. Hugs are a foreign concept in the Irons family and emotional connections are too. Jaxsons father is preparing to throw his hat into the political ring. This was the family focus and priority since his recent retirement from the Navy.
When Jaxsons, best friend William Cruz, dies, he loses the person he is closest to and a family who has been a constant presence in his life, unlike his own. William’s younger sister, Frankie, tells Jaxon after the funeral that she wanted him to remain in her family’s life. Jaxson knows he can’t do that it would be too painful. To spare her feelings Jaxon leads her to believe he will. Before he jumps on his Harley to head to a forced transfer to Pensacola, she kisses him and admits to him that she wants him for more than a replacement older brother.
Jaxson avoids her for over a year. When he returns to Norfolk fate intervenes and they see each other again. She is no longer the little girl he remembers, but the young woman who has been haunting his dreams.
After a night together he learns that she has been dying inside not only grieving her brother’s death but the loss of Jaxson. He also gets a glimpse at the darkness inside of her. One she doesn’t want to let go of. One he doesn’t know if he can accept from a girl who he once thought of as his best friends little sister.
Jaxson and Frankie’s connection eventually grows deeper. They find that their attraction for one another may have been forged by the loss of Will. Together they begin to heal as their attraction grows into fiery desire nothing can stop.
