Overview: I write mysteries and thrillers. For many years I worked as a lawyer in a small practice representing clients in the criminal courts and doing divorce work all of which has given me valuable raw material for my novels. I still live and work in North Wales where the Inspector Drake novels are set.
Genre: Fiction > Mystery/Thriller
4. Times Like These
A city emerging from Covid lockdown restrictions. A mutilated corpse is the second murder after the brutal killing of a sexual predator. Detective Marco is convinced a single killer is at work. But can he stop more deaths? The body of man involved in two failed prosecutions for sexual violence is dumped on a secluded road. Marco has to face criticism from a community appalled by the failure of the police. When the mutilated body of a man with no suspected links to sexual offences is discovered Marco is convinced one killer is at work. But his superiors disagree. A profiler, insisted on by Marco’s Superintendent, only adds to his frustration. Can Marco win the day? After two more deaths Marco realises how all the threads pull together and who might be the final victim of the killer intent on gruesome revenge. The world might have been locked away and policing very different, but DI John Marco knows that behind closed doors, the bad guys have merely been waiting patiently for their moment to strike. Faced with his own weaknesses he challenges himself to finish the case as he races to avert the final death.
5. Dead of Night
A victim with no voice…. A killer with no fear…. A race against time. When the body of a homeless man is found at the foot of a church steeple in the middle of the harshest winters Cardiff has seen for years Inspector Marco’s superior wants the inquiry finished quickly. Even if it means the killer evades justice. But Marco isn’t happy and he knows from bitter personal experience how tough life can be. A second killing of a rough sleeper only galvanises Marco and his team to hunt down the killer. But the lives of the homeless community makes uncovering the clues and tracking the killer challenging. When a vital witness disappears, Marco fears the worse. And despite knowing that a vital clue exists it remains tantalisingly out of his grasp. Things only get worse when a woman linked to the inquiry cannot be found. Only when he uncovers the missing piece of the jigsaw does he realise where to catch the culprit and how finally he must prevent more deaths.
