3. The Masked Eagle – Venice is under attack. Bodies with bite marks on their necks are appearing on the streets and humans are starting to point the finger at immortals. It doesn’t help that someone is whispering the word "vampire" in their ears. As tensions rise, all it will take is for an idiot to flash their fangs and a new world war could break out.
Effie, Sebastian and Henry suspect Sonya is behind it but persuading anyone to listen to them is proving tricky. The council has collapsed into infighting and even Catarina seems unwilling to listen. But then, Catarina’s been behaving strangely ever since she was appointed to be the enforcer in charge of dealing with the vampire situation in Venice. The team have to find Sonya and stop her before she can make the mortals believe that vampires and immortals are the same thing. But where to start? They don’t even know where Sonya is.
There is one light in the darkness: Effie has had a vision of a masked immortal making a mysterious deal with a vampire. Effie doesn’t understand it but she knows one thing: she has to go to Venice if she wants to find the answers. With Sonya getting ready to make her final move, can Effie, Sebastian and their friends solve the mystery of the masked man in time or will Venice drown in violence and death?
