My name is Claire Wright and I’m seventeen. So far I’ve died eleven times and I’m coming down to die again.
I really don’t see why I need this life lesson but it’s my last. The good news is I get to spend this life with my soumate Frankie.
Between lives, I live in a place called Geutron, which is often referred to as a black hole. You call us black matter but that’s okay because we have a name for you guys. We call you breathers. I’ll be one of you for a while, but I’m dying to go through the thirteenth door.
The problem is life doesn’t always go as planned and neither does death. Somehow I’ve ended up in Afterlife under the pyschiatric care of Gulliver Greud, a fraud with forged diplomas and ODC. Which means the crazy quack is always constantly checking where I am and micromanaging me.
My only friend in afterlife, is a lying kleptomaniac, who’s favorite past time is coffin diving, and stealing from breathers. According to her, if you stop breathing, you’re no longer a breather, which means she isn’t stealing from them.
But I’m stuck with her, like it or not, because my only chance of getting out of Afterlife, and back to Haven Heights Hospital, lies in her untrustworthy hands.
