Requirements: ePUB Reader, 162 KB
Overview: A little tough gypsy love! That’s what the son of the most ruthless of all gypsies promises his new bride. A noblewoman’s father bet his virgin daughter in a game of cards, and lost to a gypsy. No one wins against gypsies. Regret is now the father’s closest friend as he wonders if he will ever see his daughter again.
Excerpt:
“Deliver me the woman in less than a week,” the gypsy said, sending the nobleman a bitter look. “A bet is a bet.”
The gypsy stood up, and for a moment he thought the man would beg. But the nobleman’s fat mouth thinned and he hissed, “She will be here within the week.”
“Good.” The gypsy walked across the room, opened the door, and stepped outside. He was hit with a cold blast of air and rain, and the harsh weather made him come to his senses. What had he done? His father would whip him for this. Gypsies married gypsies. There was no other way.

“Can you make some clothes for my new bride,” he said. “Perhaps if she dresses like our people, my father and the others will accept her.”
“Are you sure a woman of her standing will dare to wear the clothes of a gypsy?” the woman asked.
“She’d better,” he said.
“A word of wisdom for you, Luca,” she said. “In marriage, patience will be your best friend. Patience grows love and understanding. Quick pleasure leaves anger and resentment.”
It took Luca a moment to understand what she meant. She did not speak of the clothes his new bride was to wear. Instead, she spoke of their wedding night, of their time in bed together. He frowned at her, uncertain of what to say. Virgins were new territory to him. The only carnal pleasure he had received in the past was from the well worn bodies of prostitutes.
“I understand,” he said.
“Good,” Jaelle said. “Then I shall make some clothes.”
