Overview: Some past does not die.
Tommy and Antoine, an English and French soldier, fall in love after their evacuation from France in the summer of 1940. Tommy is ordered to stay in Britain, while Antoine is shipped back to his native France. Seven years later, Tommy has managed to pick up the thread of civilian life, when his peace is suddenly shattered by a postcard, sent to him by Antoine. Antoine has plans to cross the Channel and spend a weekend in England.
While their past is their only language in common, the two men find comfort in one another’s company, and understanding which they have been deprived of in their ordinary lives.
Their love is rekindled — but this is peacetime, with different rules and expectations, and soon Tommy and Antoine find themselves at odds with their current lives. The weekend will turn several lives upside down, with things unspeakable and unspoken resurfacing.
