Overview: If HuManic Park had a tongue and a cheek, the one would be almost permanently stuck in the other. And even in this uncomfortable state, it would keep on confronting its protagonists with a rich selection of their own unquestioned assumptions and prejudices.
Where to start? With the plane crash-landing? Flash forward to Ellie’s over-dimensioned and under-occupied bed? No, better flash back many million years, to the time when the dinosaurs stabilized the climate in this dimension before taking up residence in their new, next-door dimension. They had seen the mammals coming and it was clear that that would mean trouble in the long run. Eradicating the hairy breast-feeders would have been easy, but the reptiles’ ethical values had kept pace with their intelligence, and somehow they just hadn’t had the heart to do it.
And that turned out to have a number of interesting consequences.
