Overview: In 1095, Pope Urban II called upon the Catholics in Europe to reclaim the Holy Land for Christianity. Expeditions from all corners of Western Europe marched through Europe, Anatolia and Palestine to answer the call and secure control of the holy sites considered sacred by both Christians and Muslims. For supremacy of the Holy Land, many religious wars between Christians and Muslims were fought in what has now become known as ‘The Crusades’.
Many great heroes fought in the war, from the first King of Jerusalem to Richard the Lionheart and the great Saladin, whose tactics, behaviour, and lessons are still relevant and used in today’s modern world.
Holy War is a romanticised retelling of the turbulent and bloody time in history and it gives accounts of the battles, the politics of the conflict, and the multiple viewpoints from the different factions involved in the wars that spanned centuries.
