1. Herophobia
Four words destroyed his parents’ lives. Two words meant a girl would never speak again. Quinn doesn’t want to know what he could do with a full sentence.
With just a few words, Quinn can compel anyone to do what he wants. With this power he could rule the world, create peace on Earth, and even make the girl he loves find him irresistible. He can have anything he wants. All it takes is a command.
But this power isn’t the gift it seems. Quinn has spent half his life trying not to use it — because every use backfires, and any attempt at fixing things ends in disaster. When you can control anyone with a few words, how do you avoid destroying your life?
2. Compulsion
Quinn doesn’t like to use his compulsion, but he will if he has to. He already has. To stop the Enforcer pursuing him, he compelled her to forget.
There’s a reason he doesn’t like to use his compulsion. Someone who has been compelled is driven to complete the order with a single minded focus. Nothing else matters. They don’t feel anything else – and any empath can feel that horrifying lack of emotion.
When he could compel Rainbow with any word he speaks, is it safe to be in a relationship with her?
Meanwhile, in another city, a young woman has discovered that if she tells someone to do something, they will do it. She loves this ability, and she plans to keep using it.
3. Misanthropy
The whole world wonders what really happened in the Hotel Incident. ARC has not revealed how the first registered compeller was stopped, and everyone wants to know. The main question left unanswered is ‘What happened to Clementine Jones?’ Tallulah Stone, a pro-Virt journalist, intends to find out.
At the same time, Quinn and Rainbow set off to university. They move into a Virt share house, living with other Virts (and each other) for the first time in their lives. But living out of home comes with its own difficulties, especially when there are other Virts around also trying to manage their own abilities and secrets.
