Overview: S.D Gentill set out to study astrophysics, ended up graduating in law, and later abandoned her legal career to write books instead of contracts.
When the mood takes her, she paints, although she maintains that she does so only well enough to know that she should write. She grows French Black Truffles on her farm in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains of NSW, which she shares with her young family and several animals (the farm not the truffles).
She has been writing for a couple of years, and thinking about it most of her life. She’s pretty sure now that writing is what she’s supposed to do.
Genre: Young Adult

A thrilling adventure of ancient myth, monsters, gods, sorcerers, sirens, magic and many evils…the fall of Troy and a desperate chase across the seas in a magical Phaeacian ship…

Book 1 – Chasing Odysseus
Hero and her three brothers – Mac, Cad and Lycon go on this exciting and dangerous quest to prove their murdered father’s honour, the betrayal by King Odysseus and the loyalty of their own people to the conquered city of Troy.
Weak-eyed Hero is the beloved daughter of Agelaus, a Herdsman of Mount Ida, which looms over the fortified citadel of Troy. Hero, raised under the gentle hand of her father, in the protective company of her three wild, but noble, brothers, is ruled by a fierce piety, and tormented by her Amazon heritage.
The Herdsmen of Ida hold a sacred trust. Throughout a 10-year Greek siege, they have been feeding the citizens of Troy using the secret tunnels that run beneath the fortress walls. Faithful and fearless, they traverse the ancient passages that only they know. Now Troy has fallen, and despite having led the survivors out of the carnage, the Herdsmen are falsely accused of betrayal.
Agelaus is murdered by the anguished Trojans. The Herdsmen find themselves hated and hunted by both the Greeks and their friends, the people of Troy. They are forced into hiding, labelled cowards and traitors. Desperate to free their people from the stigma of treachery, young Hero and her brothers accept a magical ship from Pan, their beloved woodland god. They chase after Odysseus, the strategist of those who laid siege to Troy. Only he can explain how the Greeks entered the city, and in doing so cleanse the Herdsmen of the stain of treachery.

Book 2 – Trying War
Trying War begins as the Herdsmen return to Troy after chasing King Odysseus across the seas. Although Hero, Mac, Cad and Lycon have cleared the name of their people, they are turning to a world that has been devastated. And then the Amazons arrive… and things get a whole lot worse. Once again, the Herdsmen of Ida are caught in unfolding legend – facing monsters, murderers and the gods at war, in a desperate attempt to challenge what the fates have decreed.
This fast-moving quest is based on Greek myth, but at its core is a gripping fantasy adventure series. Gentill creates twist after extraordinary twist to keep today’s readers enchanted and enthralled from start to finish.

Book 3 – The Blood of Wolves
As empires fall and are founded anew, the Herdsmen of Ida join the refugees of Troy in search of a vague destiny promised by fickle gods. Amidst disaster, monsters, heresy and war they risk not only their lives, but their hearts, to twist the treacherous threads of fate and deny the desperate demands of blood.
Like the first two books in the Hero series, (Chasing Odysseus and Trying War) The Blood of Wolves draws upon ancient Greek and Roman mythology, as well as Virgils’s Aeneid, giving readers fast-paced adventures where gods walk the earth, a treacherous fate is merely a moment away and families are turned against each other by the machinations of a wily king.
The Blood of Wolves begins as the protagonist, Hero, believing she has received a vision from the gods, urges her fellow Herdsmen of Ida to leave their war-torn homeland. Her older brothers laugh and dismiss her…until a mysterious Trojan ship appears on the shoreline by the ruins of the once glorious citadel. Taking up where Trying War leaves off, The Blood of Wolves sees the four exhausted heroes embark on a gripping quest to save those forced to flee Troy.
Bound by past promises and loyalty and led by the visions of a mad king, Hero, and her brothers Mac, Cad and Lycon embark on a journey fraught with peril and personal anguish as they guide these outcast Trojans to a new land to found an empire.
