Hearts and Arrows series by Staci Hart (#1-3.5)
Requirements: ePUB Reader, 1.7 MB
Overview: Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life: a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, even though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f and ends with k.
Genre: Romance, Paranormal
Deer in Headlights (#1): Lex is everything Dean needs — but he can’t have her. It doesn’t matter that she’s beautiful or that her art and poetry speak to his shredded heart. She’s the new drummer’s girlfriend, the latest in a long line of drummers past. He promised the band he’d stay away to protect their record deal, so he’s left with no choice but to deny his heart for the sake of their music. Dean is everything Lex wants — but she can’t take the risk. When Lex meets Dean, she’s sure it’s only attraction that has her so hung up on the dark, damaged lead singer, but the more she learns about him, the more she wants him. Love has never been worth the sacrifice, until now. But she can’t put her heart on the line — she won’t — even though she wants to for the first time. If only they knew they were just pawns in a much bigger game. And in this game of love, Aphrodite never loses.
Snake in the Grass: (#2) The truth changes everything. It’s round two of high stakes Love Connection on Olympus, and this time, everything has changed. Ares is on deck, and as much as Aphrodite loves to love him, she doesn’t trust him as far as she could throw him, which isn’t very far. But she never could resist him, even knowing he was a liar. Just swept her suspicion under the rug because there was nothing to prove. But after the last game, she’s seeing things in a new light, light that has cast shadows across her entire life. Ares has a plan to keep Aphrodite, for good this time. He wants to win the game, but he’ll hold back, if that’s what it takes to get her back. He’s sitting on a chance that’s been thousands of years in the making, and he’ll do what he has to do to convince her to stay forever. The only thing that could stop him is the secret that he’s been keeping for eons. If she finds out, it will destroy everything. Aphrodite chooses Kat as her human player, a gun toting drag racer who has yet to meet her match, and Ares decides on Dillon, a badass boxer who never loses, who’s lived a life full of pain and loss. Both of their lives revolve around keeping their siblings safe, and they’ve sacrificed everything to make sure things stay that way. They are tough and loyal, fierce and determined, but they become each other’s weakness, even though they fight it, and even though it means danger for Kat and her sister.
What the Heart Wants #2.5): Love wasn’t an option, until he met her. It’s 1984, and Tanaka Katsu is paving his way in the Yakuza. His marriage to Yuki was a business deal, and one that he has paid for with his happiness. Aphrodite can’t stand that he’s so miserable, and Hera, the goddess of marriage and monogamy, has a strong hold on Yuki, who will do whatever it takes to get what she believes is hers. Aphrodite won’t sit by and watch Katsu’s life slip away with no chance at love, so when he takes a trip to Vegas, she’ll introduce him to his match. Kim never thought she’d be in the situation like the one that’s coming her way, but what the heart wants is a powerful thing, and one that’s impossible to walk away from.
Doe Eyes (#3): Aphrodite knows better than anyone how the heart works. Just don’t ask her to figure out her own. She’s been away from Olympus for weeks, which wasn’t near long enough for her to move on from everything that happened, to get past the betrayal and loss. She has no idea what she’s walking into when she gets back other than a new competition, this time against Artemis. The goddesses have never been friends, but now they have more in common than ever, though they’d rather face eat ambrosia straight than admit it. Artemis can’t help but be smug. Her player, Josie, is a private investigator who’s lost more than she’s won. Every waking moment is consumed by her fire to catch the man who killed her partner, and when Jon comes back into town after leaving her without a word, it’s more than she can handle. She’ll never let him in. Not again. But Jon only did what he thought was right, and he’ll do anything he can, give her everything he has to give to prove that he can be trusted with her heart again. With Adonis gone and the threat of Ares around every corner, Aphrodite’s past presses on her, leaving her more alone than she’s ever been. She can’t help wondering if she’ll ever escape, and how much pain she’ll endure before the whole ordeal is behind her.
Fool’s Gold (#3.5): Life is never black and white. It’s a fact Josie knows too well, right next to wanting what you can’t have. And even though Jon is her friend and colleague, he pushes those boundaries on the regular. There are times when she feels like she can’t escape him, and others where she doesn’t want to. The tension twists tighter every time they meet, but Jon’s unavailable. Live-in girlfriend of years unavailable. As much as Josie cares about him, and as much as she wants more, his flirting is a cruel tease. Unfair. And she’ll push him away if she has to, if that’s what it takes to protect herself. As far as Aphrodite’s concerned, Jon and Josie getting together is inevitable. But keeping them together may be harder than any of them realize, and what Josie thinks is her happy ending may just turn out to be fool’s gold.
