Handbook for Spies by Alexander Foote
Requirements: .ePUB reader, 1.1 mb
Overview: Handbook for Spies, first published in 1949, is the account of Allan Alexander Foote (1905-1957) of his work as a radio operator for a Soviet espionage ring in Switzerland during World War II. Foote, originally from England, had spent time in 1930s Spain with the Republicans during the Civil War. He continued his efforts against Fascism (and, perhaps, for Communism) and volunteered for underground work in Switzerland. He became a radio operator for the Soviet spy operation run by Alexander Rado and was one of those who passed information to Moscow from the Lucy spy ring run by Rudolf Roessler. Foote was arrested when the police shut down most of the operation and was detained for a time in a Swiss prison. After the War, Foote lived in the Eastern Bloc for a time before returning to the West where he wrote Handbook for Spies. According to some sources, Foote was actually working for the British MI6 intelligence agency as a double agent.
