Requirements: .ePUB, .MOBI/.AZW reader, 1.9MB
Overview: Sixteen-year-old Gunther has been born into what he considers a boring life on the edge of New York’s Catskill Mountains. His boredom turns to concern when eleven of his fellow high-school students disappear without a trace at the start of summer. Concern turns to excitement at his discovery of a cave entrance in the far reaches of his family’s farm, and then to fear when he and his younger sister June become trapped inside and have no choice but to make their way through the cave in search of another exit.

The cave proves to be inhabited by intelligent creatures that have evolved underground from life forms he has formerly known as wiggly things on a microscope slide. Not only have the creatures captured his fellow students, they have confined them to a prison camp of sorts and placed them on a diet of giant butterfly larvae. Although Gunther and Hood—formerly one of his least favorite classmates—manage a dialog with the subterranean leaders, trust between the species remains tenuous. The teens become convinced that escape is their only option, forcing them to evade a powerful underground army and fight off a Giant Arthropod-Amphibian Guard.
