In this slightly askew Earthly setting the good news is that after the Cold War ended, peace, health, and prosperity have swept the world, and militaries have been totally disbanded. The bad news is that evil space aliens known as the Ra have diverted an asteroid to strike Earth on Christmas Eve in less than two weeks.
