Overview: This is the first comprehensive, fully documented, and fully illustrated study of French cathedral sculpture during the period 1140-1270.
In planning the present volume, the first consideration was to reduce the available material to reasonable proportions. It was decided that although the influence of French sculpture spread to neighbouring parts of Europe – triumphant proof of its pioneering role – works outside the boundaries of present-day France must be excluded.
