Overview: Randall Garrett was an American science fiction and fantasy author. He was a prolific contributor to Astounding and other science fiction magazines of the 1950s and 1960s. He instructed Robert Silverberg in the techniques of selling large quantities of action-adventure science fiction, and collaborated with him on two novels about Earth bringing civilization to an alien planet.
Vicki Ann Heydron (born 21 October 1945) is an American writer of speculative fiction and poetry. Born in Sacramento, she wrote most of her work in collaboration with her husband Randall Garrett. Her principal work is the Gandalara Cycle (1981–1986), a seven-volume fantasy series. Although both Garrett and Heydron are credited as authors, she is believed to be the principal author given that Garrett was incapacitated for most of the series’ publication history.

More surpises awaited him in the exotic city of Raithskar – he was called Markasset, a master swordsman, son of a powerful leader, and a man on the run, accused of murder and the theft of a precious, sacred jewel. For their safety, Rikardon leaves the city of Raithskar for Thagorn, home to the Sharith a brotherhood of warcat riders like himself. Rikardon is drawn to the beautiful, intriguing Tarani, though she appears to be plotting against him. Tracking down Volitar forces them into an uneasy alliance… and into the path of a murderous villain intent on using the gem’s power to rule Gandalara, no matter what the consequences may be…

Tarani soon learns of another reason to journey to the distant city. Her mother, Zefra, is still living and married to Eddarta’s High Lord, Pylomel. Despite her rank, Zefra is little more than a prisoner herself—and her revelations about Tarani’s heritage put the travelers in mortal danger from the ruthless ruler and his ambitious son.
