Frygga’s Legacy series by Fynn F Gunnarson (#1-3)

Overview: Fynn F Gunnarson (alias “Fynn the Fortunate”) is a fictional Viking, who was born in the late 9th century near Grimstad in Norway. He is known for being the best friend and confident of Viking hero Erik (“Sharp Axe”) Haraldson and for being part of the band of ten brave (but largely incompetent) warriors who made the epic search to find Thor’s hammer, in the year 905. Fynn wrote down their exploits during this time, but his writings were only recently discovered and published as the saga, The Quest For Mjøllnir. Later adventures recorded by Fynn involving Sharp Axe and his men have also recently been unearthed and will be published soon in the 3 books of Frygga’s Legacy. Much of Fynn’s life is a mystery, but there are rumours amongst Viking historians that he was the seventh son of a seventh son (possibly also of a seventh son). This pedigree seems to account for the incredibly good fortune Fynn enjoyed from time to time in The Quest For Mjøllnir and in subsequent, yet-to-be-published memoirs. Fynn’s hobbies included trying not to be eaten by dragons and sea monsters, trying not to be killed by hostile giants and warring dwarves, and helping Sharp Axe in his constant struggle to keep his men in line.

1. Helheimr
After his epic quest to find the lost hammer of Thor (as recounted in the saga, The Quest For Mjøllnir), Erik “Sharp Axe” Haraldson is living a sheltered life in Álfheimr, together with his soul mate, Mithrén the elf maiden and his best friend, Fynn the Fortunate. This largely peaceful existence is shattered, however, when a visitor arrives unexpectedly one day in the Realm of the Light Elves with a plea for help that Sharp Axe and Fynn simply cannot refuse. They must embark on a journey no mortal has ever made (or, at least, none that has lived to tell the tale), led and protected by a formidable and fearsome guide, older than the Norse Gods themselves. Sharp Axe and Fynn need back up… but who in the Nine Worlds would volunteer to join Sharp Axe on such a perilous adventure? How unlucky could a Viking hero be?
2. Jarnvidr
With the task set for them by Harald Fairhair successfully completed, Sharp Axe and his men journey to frozen Jarnvidr, the Iron Wood, to present the king with the mysterious item he requested from Helheimr. Meanwhile, Mithrén risks her life to find out the potentially-cataclysmic truth behind the king’s errand. But can she warn Sharp Axe and the others before all the horrors that dwell in Jarnvidr, natural and supernatural, are unleashed by their evil and terrifying mistress? Who is really behind it all? Has Sharp Axe finally bitten off more than he can chew? This is the toughest test he has ever faced and now, more than ever, he needs his men to rise to the greatest challenge of their lives. Well… he can always hope for the best.
3. Asgard
Although Loki the Trickster God has been out-tricked by the elf maiden, Mithrén, he still has plenty of tricks up his sleeve and has no intention of giving up on his audacious, evil master plan. During a rare visit home, Sharp Axe receives an unexpected visitor himself, leading to a new set of adventures which see him travelling to familiar and not-so-familiar mystical destinations, in the least comfortable method of transport to be found anywhere in the Nine Worlds. Sharp Axe has unfinished business to attend to and, when the going really starts to get tough, he can count on having Fynn the Fortunate, the luckiest man in the world, at his side. But, with their own lives and the very existence of the Aesir and Vanir at stake, will that be enough?
