Darcy is troubled by Elizabeth’s presence at Netherfield. He is utterly bewitched by her and had criticised her family to convince himself of the unsuitability of a union between them. But he can feel his resolve crumbling, and he leaves Netherfield to forget her.
Back home at Longbourn, Elizabeth rejects the marriage proposal of Mr Collins, the cousin who is to inherit her father’s estate after his death. Mrs Bennet banishes Elizabeth to London to stay with her aunt and uncle as punishment for her refusal. She is also compelled by her father to take her youngest sister Lydia with her, to prevent her from travelling to Brighton with the militia where she is sure to get in trouble. While staying with the relatives Darcy had once criticised, Elizabeth meets him unexpectedly. This time, he tries to make amends for his behaviour in Meryton and she is confused by his attentions towards her. Can she give him a chance to prove himself? And is it possible she has judged him far harsher than he deserved?
Darcy is troubled to realise he is more deeply in love with Elizabeth than ever. He finally accepts that he can think of no other woman as his wife. But twice now, she has heard him insult her behind her back. Can he convince her he was wrong? And can he become a man who is worthy of her?
When Lydia’s behaviour threatens to ruin her and her entire family, Elizabeth turns to Darcy for help. And she realises that maybe he is the man for her after all.
