Forgotten Monsters series (#1-2) by Michael Procopio
Requirements: .ePUB, .MOBI/.AZW reader, 2 MB
Overview: Michael Procopio is an urban fantasy (and occasional sci-fi) writer living in Massachusetts. He grew up with dreams of somehow becoming a vampire slayer or developing superpowers. When that didn’t happen, he got a job working in higher education.
When he’s not writing, Michael can be found baking (and stuffing his face with said baked goods), reading, watching TV (too much TV, honestly), spending time with his family and friends, and traveling.
It’s not slaying vampires but it’s also not as boring as it sounds.
Genre: Fiction > Sci-Fi/Fantasy
Forgotten Monsters (#1)
“The power she felt. Her control. She wanted to hold onto it, but she had to forget it.”
One frigid, winter evening Marissa Summers saved someone’s life. She’d used her secret telekinetic abilities to stop a robbery in a park and – lucky her – someone recorded it. Footage from the incident went viral. Though she did her best to conceal her identity by wrapping a scarf around her face, she was easily recognized by the one person she’s evaded for years: her abusive mother, Claire.
Claire makes Marissa an offer too good to refuse – she can bury the growing story and prevent Marissa’s identity from being revealed. While Claire says she has her daughter’s best interests at heart, Marissa soon discovers that her mother’s lies and secrets are far more insidious than she could have ever imagined.
The worst part? No matter how much power Marissa has, it becomes obvious that Claire can still get Marissa under her control with just a few manipulative words.
With her freedom on the line, Marissa must confront her mother, inciting a battle she never wanted to be a part of. Will she find the strength to overcome her past once and for all or will she remain entrapped in the snare of the very person she spent her life fleeing from?
Vengeful Monsters (#2)
Marissa Summers didn’t mean to unleash a telekinetic blast, and she definitely had no idea it would put her mind-controlling mother, Claire, into a coma. But, either way, she’s finally free of that evil woman’s abuse.
Or so she thought.
Because Derik, a troubled stranger, is stalking her, and he knows way more about her life than he should. When he casts illusions that torment Marissa with memories of her traumatic past, it leaves little doubt he has some connection to Claire.
To make matters worse, Marissa soon discovers that Derik can mimic others’ powers, and now he’s after hers. There’s only one reason he could want her psychic abilities — to resurrect Claire.
Marissa is going to need backup, so she assembles a team of superpowered individuals to take on Derik. Because if he achieves his goal, Marissa will never be free from her mother’s control…and neither will anyone else.
