Forbidden Arcana Series by Tamryn Tamer (1-9)
Requirements: epub reader, 1.87MB
Overview: Tamryn Tamer is known for tawdry fantasy stories focused around filthy elves, fairies, demons, and really any other mythical creature.
Genre: Sci-Fi/Fantasy
1. Jinx – Mages are weak? No. Everybody else is just doing it wrong. At least that’s what the developers said.
In Forbidden Arcana you could pick up a sword, swing it around, and become a powerful warrior in no time. Magic, not so much. The most powerful mage in the game was only capable of casting a fire pillar, Jericho was the fifth most powerful. Needless to say he was equally unimpressive.
He could have changed classes a hundred times, but from the moment he cast his first fireball, Jericho was hooked on magic. Nothing compared to the electric feeling as fire and air mixed at his finger tips creating an explosion…even if it did injure him half the time.
So, when he meets Jinx, a familiar who’s knowledge of magic is only matched by her knowledge of insults, Jericho’s perfectly willing to bind himself to her in exchange for teaching him magic. Now all he needs to do is figure out how he’s going to pay for her expensive tastes and keep up with her more physical demands.
2. Ariel – Thirteen types of magic to master. Fire, earth, water, wind, spirit, mind, body, time, space, light, dark, life, and death. Jericho has a long way left to go before he truly becomes the mage he aspires to be.
Ever since binding himself to Jinx, Jericho’s knowledge and control of magic was progressing daily. His elemental magic flourished and with Jinx’s help his spirit magic was advancing swiftly…at least he thought so. Jinx would say he was slow and inept.
Jericho also needed to find more familiars in order to unlock new types of magic. And although Jinx revealed that a fairy familiar would unlock mind magic for Jericho, nobody knew where to look. The only hint he’d found was a mention of a landmark in the center of a rotting forest full of monsters.
But between meeting the needs of his insatiable familiar, investigating dying forests, and helping his friend Terra avoid bounty hunters, Jericho wasn’t even sure if he could handle another familiar
3. Mirage – Jericho had wealth, power, and two beautiful familiars. A smart man would have quit while he was ahead. But, as his familiar Jinx was so fond of pointing out, Jericho was an idiot.
He’d acquired a massive manor, enormous wealth, and was indisputably the number one mage in Forbidden Arcana. Yet that wasn’t enough to satisfy him. He was going to find a shapeshifter and learn a new type of magic even if it killed him.
But a shapeshifter wasn’t easy to find. The only place that might have the information on finding a shapeshifter was Raycastle, a city full of players who spent their time capturing and killing magical creatures.
If that wasn’t enough of a hassle, the dominatrix advisor to his familiar Ariel has developed an interested in making Jericho her pet. Which he’d be fine with if it weren’t interfering with his hunt for a new familiar. But nobody said the life of a depraved mage was easy.
4. Theia – Castle Black was considered an impossible dungeon in Forbidden Arcana and Jericho didn’t have any choice but to take it on. If he wanted to find a new familiar, his only lead was on the seventh floor.
Fortunately, Jericho’s new familiar Mirage had a plan. Rather than fight impossibly powerful floor guardians they could shapeshift their way past them and reach the seventh floor without having to battle a single opponent. Or so they hoped.
Of course, that was only step one. Jericho also needed to find valuable information, find the familiar, and convince the familiar to bind to him. And if the familiar was anything like his last, she’d come with problems of her own.
But the magical arms race was starting and while he possessed three sexy and powerful familiars he needed to acquire more if he wanted to remain the number one mage in Forbidden Arcana.
5. Sable – Sin was a good name for Jericho’s guild. In a single word it conveyed so much. Immorality, perversion, offensiveness. Most importantly, it conveyed that his very existence was an affront to the established power. Which is why joining Sin resulted in being placed on the kill on sight lists of three of the largest guilds in the game. It made recruitment difficult.
Fortunately, Jericho was still the number one mage in the game and his fame went a long way. On top of that, his alliance with Tiamat and Endgame was going well, at least on days where he didn’t turn peace talks into a massacre.
But he’d let his allies handle that. Jericho’s primary concern was gathering information he could use to find new familiars and unlock new magic. And he’d just hit pay dirt.
A mysterious dark magic user is locked away in a hidden Seraphim prison located in the middle of enemy territory. If he doesn’t want his search for a new familiar to escalate into a full blown war, he’ll need to be careful.
6. Luna – Forbidden Arcana was full of dungeons. There were towers filled with evil warlords, caverns filled with man eating insects, and ruins overrun with undead. The Magus Puzzle was nothing like those and Luna would do anything to complete it, even bind herself to a mage.
Jericho needed a spatial magic user and Luna needed a master. Sure, they could have met under better circumstances. She could have knocked on his door and introduced herself rather than spy on him for weeks, even during his most intimate moments. But, in the end, she decided she liked what she saw and that’s what really mattered.
Jericho was going to help her solve the Magus Puzzle, if for no other reason than he was just as curious as she was about what was inside of it.
In the meantime, Terra offered to keep the other familiars occupied with a trip to a dungeon of their own. All she needs to do is figure out how to keep them under control without going insane.
7. Talia – Talia Memoria. The name meant nothing to the people of Forbidden Arcana. She saved the entire continent from an invincible archdemon and they didn’t even be bother to remember her name. Well, if that’s how they wanted to be, they could suffer the consequences.
Jericho, the most powerful mage in the world, had his own problems. Due to his growing household and numerous obligations, Jericho had almost no time to himself. If he wasn’t training, he was researching and if he wasn’t researching, he was entertaining his growing pool of familiars and followers. Life was getting complicated.
But no matter how complicated his life got, Jericho was first and foremost a mage. That meant he could always find time to acquire new magic and new familiars. That’s why when he heard about a time witch plotting to release demons, he was excited.
Jericho was going to claim the beautiful Talia Memoria as his familiar and learn time magic, even if it meant taking on an unbeatable archdemon and his generals.
8. Morgana – Death in Forbidden Arcana wasn’t much more than an inconvenience but losing his home, that wouldn’t be easy to come back from. So, when Grim and their new alliance discovers a way to take down the protective barriers surrounding villages and cities, Jericho has no choice but to seek out a new way to protect Dayrose.
Unfortunately, the only thing capable of truly protecting a city is a god and they don’t tend to do things out of the kindness of their heart. If Jericho wants to protect his city and his familiars, he needs to find a way to convince a god to make Dayrose their home.
The first step is finding that god and luckily Jericho has a lead. All he needs to do is travel to a mysterious temple in the middle of nowhere, convince the herald to summon the god, and then best the god in a series of challenges. Should be a walk in a park for the most powerful mage in Forbidden Arcana.
9. Valaria – Jericho’s guild was generating more wealth than he ever imagined, Dayrose was becoming one of the most popular cities in Forbidden Arcana, and he was winning his war. Things were going well for the powerful mage and soon the entire continent was going to be under his control.
But desperate people do dangerous things and Jericho’s enemies were desperate. He destroyed their fortresses with ease and his familiars mercilessly slaughtered their troops. Their only choice was to summon a being so powerful that even Jericho couldn’t stand against it. They needed a Primordial.
If Jericho hoped to stop the Primordial before it killed everybody in the world, he was going to need to become immortal and that required finding his final familiar and learning life magic.
