She felt her head whirling and thought that she might pass out. She thought of making a scene and walking into the diner right then and there. She began to think about how many weekends and how long he had been traveling for work on the weekends and wondered if this was the only girl or the current girl or one of the girls. She felt stupid and betrayed and deceived and could think of wanting nothing more than to just get him out of her life. Now she was going to have to get tested for STD’s and everything, not to mention finding a good lawyer and dealing with a divorce.
His nightmares he envisioned himself running into her at a night club, with all of her friends, treating him the same exact way that she used to treat him in high school. Acting as though he wasn’t even good enough to talk to her because he was barely good enough to exist, someone as puny and dorky as him. In his dream he attempted to rebut but when he caught a glimpse of himself he was still that dorky scrawny kid in high school and not the filled out, suave man he had become.
Once she was back at her office she began to craft her letter to Matt. While she wanted more than anything to be with someone who made her happy and cared for her she just couldn’t bring herself to believe that this was the man for her. Things were just too perfect and too amazing and she had always grown up under the ideals that if it’s too good to be true then it probably is. It was better to cut her losses now before she wound up more entangled or emotionally involved just to pick up the pieces of her heart later. Reading over the email one more time she took a deep breath and clicked the send button. A few moments later her office phone rang.
