Short story collections are usually a very mixed bunch, some you (hopefully) love, some are just "Ehh", and then their are stories like the one that starts out this collection, DANCERS…..
In general, the stories here ranged from good to very good, but I have to expand on that first story. It may be the best short story that I can remember reading in quite some time. DANCERS was simply one of the most beautifully poignant of Meikle’s short stories that I have ever read! The prose was so evocative and seductive. There is a line in there, that gave me actual chills! The power contained in this one short story was simply astonishing–everything about it flowed perfectly, from unrelenting atmosphere, to the characterization. If nothing else, this collection is worth the purchase based on the strength of that story alone!
