Book #8 – A Long Road Back
The original group of forty who went into Salt Mountain has changed in so many ways. Some are dead now. Others have taken their place. All have seen the worst of humanity in a cold and increasingly harsh world. One in which those lucky enough to have survived have learned to take without regard for others. Where the lawless run roughshod over the timid. Where few have to answer for their actions.
Some among the group have strayed from the laws of civilized society. Some have strayed from the tenets of right and wrong. Some have joined the ranks of the lawless. And others among them… the ones who swore to protect and serve, and to administer justice… they’re caught between a rock and a hard place.
The world has lost nearly all its people. Those who have survived the turmoil have settled into an uneasy new existence. One in which the lawful seldom stray far from their homes and the lawless continue to take without consequence.
Only sometimes there are consequences. Sometimes prairie justice is appropriate. Sometimes traditional justice is cast aside.
And sometimes things are not what they appear to be.
Round Two is on the way. A world that has changed so much in ten years has only begun to be turned upside down.
And not everyone will survive.
Book #10 – Frozen
It’s happened. Their worst fears have come true. A tumbling meteorite named Cupid 23 comes barreling to earth, wiping out the tiny German town of Spangdahlem.
Millions of tons of earth are thrown up into the atmosphere and the sky turns a dirty brown.
Within hours the darkened skies have crossed the Atlantic. By the end of the day the entire earth will be affected.
On a lonely highway in Texas, Marty Hankins catches a whiff of a long-forgotten smell.
From eight miles away his best friend and fellow trucker, Lenny Geibel, calls over the radio.
“Marty, I smell dirt in the air. Please, tell me you don’t smell it too.”
Both men had lived through a previous meteorite’s assault ten years before. Both remembered that the smell of earth in the air preceded the darkening of the skies.
And the six year freeze which followed.
This is the story of two groups of survivors. Survivors who’ve already been through hell, and who are now facing another round. They live in two different places, in two dramatically different shelters. They’ve been preparing for the latest disaster, and at the same time praying it wouldn’t happen.
It did.
And few would survive.
Book #20 – No Worse for Wear
It’s a joyous homecoming as Frank Woodard finally makes it back to Junction, Texas and pulls up to the Salt Mountain mine. In tow are new wife Josie and a mentally disabled man named Eddie. For the first time since the mine was sealed to ride out the freeze, all its wanderers are home again. But that doesn’t mean everything is well. For within their midst is a cold-blooded murderer. Frank doesn’t know it, but he and the others are harboring a cop-killer. And as sweet as she seems she will cause great turmoil in the coming months.
Book #21 – An Uneasy Transition
The inhabitants of the Salt Mountain mine are in a festive mood. Frank Woodard is home again and has brought his new wife Josie and two friends with him. As Josie and Eddie are making themselves comfortable in their new home, Tina is keeping secrets. No one knows they are harboring a cop killer within their midst. But things are going to get much worse. When Sami is chatting with her friends at Eden South she hears an explosion, followed by screams in the background, just before the radio goes silent. She sends up an alarm and dispatches the cavalry. All assume that Eden South is under attack, and they rush to help. Only to find out the situation is much worse than they expected.
Book #22 – Ashes to Ashes
Life goes on in the Salt Mountain mine, but it’s in a state of change. The old-timers have welcomed the survivors of Eden South with open arms, and will grieve with them for the ones they’ve lost. Eddie, the damaged man with the mind of a little boy, finally finds happiness. At long last, he’ has a woman to love. He’s headed for a serious fall, though, for that love cannot possibly last. The search for Deputy Daniel Sonmore’s murderer goes on, and investigators are getting closer. And Frank and Josie are the subjects of a nationwide manhunt.
