Overview: Vance Huxley lives out in the countryside in Lincolnshire, England. He has spent a busy life working in many different fields – including the building and rail industries, as a workshop manager, trouble-shooter for an engineering firm, accountancy, cafe proprietor, and graphic artist. He also spent time in other jobs, and is proud of never being dismissed, and only once made redundant. Eventually he found his Noeline, but unfortunately she died much too young. To help with the aftermath, Vance tried writing though without any real structure. As an editor and beta readers explained the difference between words and books, he tried again. Now he tries to type as often as possible in spite of the assistance of his cats, since his legs no longer work well enough to allow anything more strenuous. An avid reader of sci-fi, fantasy and adventure novels, his writing tends towards those genres.

Branching Out (#3)
Three years and hundreds of bullets later, Orchard Close is holding together. The cabal dreams up more ways to get their latest group of requirements: gardeners and women of loose morals. Food production is a major concern, for the marts and for the enclaves. Caddi pushes Harold with his new games, taunting, testing and trying to figure out what makes him tick – so he can exploit it.
A common enemy, The General, smashes smaller enclaves, combines gangs and makes a wide sweep for control of the city, aligning the GOFS, Barbies and Orchard Close for their biggest fight yet. In this new world, only the strategic survive, but can they survive their temporary alliances?
Last Man Standing (#5)
As Caddi’s killers rampage through Orchard Close the usual defenders are helpless, but unlikely heroes make their own stand. As dawn shows the extent of the death and destruction, Harold reaches out to the Barbies. A huge bribe buys medicine and treatment at Beth’s, but that won’t save those too badly hurt to move.
The pyres hold a third of Orchard Close’s residents, many are badly injured, and the General is still out there. Despite the damage refugees still arrive, some of them providing a ray of hope. In death, Caddi gifts the injured a chance at life, but only if the bad girls on the block agree. While eight gangs clash, Harold tries once again to save his love.
Elsewhere the Zoo have a chance to gain allies, but to do so they must risk meeting Conan and his Barbarians. Events around Orchard Close give Sutton Park a respite, while Prof and the SIMS test their new weapons against the Borg. The Cabal launch their final armoured drive to destroy the Reivers, followed by the Specials to process any captives. At the other end of the country, Londoners plan for the day the armour comes for them.
The General is gathering allies, desperate to hit Orchard Close before their wounded can recover. He builds the biggest army seen in the city, nearly a thousand armed men from eight gangs, all determined to crush Orchard Close. The Barbies and GOFS are neutralised, rockets tear holes in the walls, and a saboteur strikes inside Orchard Close, but a depleted Riot Squad step up to face the horde. Outnumbered ten to one they can’t win, but hope the Last Man Standing will pull the General’s Army down with him.
Uprooting the Orchard (#6)
Orchard Close survived Caddi’s invasion, and smashed the General’s army, but was the price too high? The Riot Squad are dead or wounded, the Army is watching from the bypass, and the attacking gangs were beaten but not annihilated. This time they don’t even have a leader, because Soldier Boy will be out of action for months.
At least the attackers left behind plenty of weapons, providing the Army don’t take them, and one person is ruthless enough to use them all. Without telling even ‘Arold, the Killer Queen uses illegal weaponry to recruit, then launches a true Blitzkrieg across the battered city. With their enemies occupied, the Orchard Close survivors try to come to terms with the deaths, the destruction, and a growing conviction they can never win, that the government and scroats will keep coming.
The Cabal is distracted because the Reivers spring their own May Day surprise party. The Bruce is aiming high this time, he wants to buy Scotland from the Cabal and the first payment is in blood. As brave men and women launch their attacks or make their last stands, the foreign mercenaries and Specials find that their own families are vulnerable, and even the Royal Navy gets a wake-up call. While they are occupied, Bruce strikes for the real prize, a way to bring the Cabal to the negotiating table.
Throughout the summer, as Harold heals, he begins to plan the evacuation of Orchard Close. The gangs are finished, but when the Army withdraws from the bypass their replacements, Mart guards, will have machine guns aiming right into the heart of Orchard Close. Even as he tries to keep his plans secret, a rumour begins to grow, about an operation called Silent Running. It spreads and grows, helped by a song, until even the surrounding gangs believe it; Soldier Boy is leaving to set up a secret base. When the government finally comes for the Cities, there’ll be a haven for those who escape and a strike force poised to disrupt the assault. By the time the convoy is ready, even the Cabal knows about the breakout, but with all the rumours Harold hopes that even his resident government spy is confused.
Chaos and Convoys (#9)
The Nineteenth is coming, and with it, the fate of London hangs in the balance.
In the enclaves, rumors fly, and preparations are made for the impending ashfield photos that could incite bloody revolt. Army loyalties divide between looking the other way and aiding the cause. The Londoners dig in, unaware their survival may hinge on the events of the Nineteenth.
As opposing factions vie for control, conspiracies abound. Spies infiltrate and snipers take aim, all trying to steer the clash to their advantage.
When Soldier Boy finds his former unit guarding London, all bets are off. Chaos reigns over two harrowing days and nights as allegiances shift and power grabs play out. As schemes unwind and loyalties unravel, only time will tell who remains standing when the smoke clears.
