Requirements: ePUB Reader, 1.60 Mb
Overview: K.J. Jones subscribes to the Michael Crichton method of fiction writing by using a well-researched, real-world matrix with fictitious surreal events woven carefully in. The reader gets to learn while being entertained. K.J. earned a BA in anthropology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. This was followed by moving to the UK and earning a master’s degree. Writing is a family hobby. Her grandmother, uncle, and mother all tried their hands at writing, but hadn’t pursued it further. After tragedy struck her life, K.J. found solace in writing a novel about what would happen if the zombie apocalypse was real, using people and places she knew from her adventures and travels. One novel turned into a series, and her writing passion began. Her first writing effort was when she was twelve. At age twenty-two, she wrote a novel about future calamity, which has eerily come true. Originally from Long Island, NY, KJ Jones most recently lived in the mountains of West Virginia. In her escape from snow and ice, she now lives in southern Florida, where the weather outside summer is fantastic.

The Beginning (Book 1)
A Lyssavirus related to rabies erupts during a flu pandemic. Animals turn within ten days. For humans, twelve hours to twelve months. The government cannot let anyone out of the hot zone. The media cannot tell the public. Coastal Wilmington, North Carolina stands at the crosshairs. Authorities assert the crazies popping up all over town are on a new designer street drug. The drug-users look and act like frenzied infected zombies from movies. Over five days, a cast of Millennials and war vet GenXers experience their world of normalcy infiltrated. For former Ranger Staff Sergeant Peter Sullivan, it’s a good thing. War is what he does best. But for doctoral candidate Phebe Marcelino, it’s a descent into a hell of kill or be killed. Phebe and two other civilians must band together with a group of war vets led by Peter to battle their way out before death or contagion overtakes them.
Holding Ground (Book 2)

Ex-Rangers and ex-Marines rise to be the heroes of locals. R140 waves through in a viral burn. As old infected turn into something reminiscent of George Romero shuffling living dead, fast runner new infected rise. Peter’s quest for Phebe ramps up and he gets confused by his own emotions. Jackson neglects to inform them they will first have to go through the US Navy for a thorough medical and background check. Peter Sullivan is confronted with his past. His future with the group jeopardized. Army Reservists Matt Gleason and Chris Higgins are placed into Active Duty. Former-Marines Mazy Baptiste and Ben Raven are reactivated and stationed to Camp Parris, formerly the USMC new recruit training facility. Reaching the refugee island, all is not as it seems. There’s no virus or “zoms.” But traumatized crazy people pose a new threat. And the Navy’s fighter jets are always ready to wipe out the survivors if things go sideways. Phebe Marcelino’s in for a life changing surprise.
Rescue (Book 4)
Phebe and her group escape to Historic Charleston, SC on the Molly after the refugee island burns. But there’s no sign of Peter and the guys for days. The deserted city turns out to have some survivors. Some good. Some wicked. As the group works to settle down for the long haul and heal from their heavy losses, new enemies arise, causing tribal warfare. The morality of the Before is a detriment. One must become the Zone to survive.
Escape (Book 5)
Worse is a bottomless pit. A fresh new hell in the walled-in Fort Jackson US Army Base. The Congressional Order to rescue Zoners is worse than the group imagined. Kept in an overcrowded hangar bay of detainees, one false move can be fatal. The group faces separation. Uneasy alliances made with an enemy tribe. Zoner is their new identity and all that matters, but old harms and hates are hard to forget.
