Overview: Shannon Pemrick, for as long as she can remember, has always been in love with dragons, although she never liked the constant portrayal of dragons being inherently evil. In a quest to find more diverse characterizations of dragons, Shannon found her passion for reading Paranormal Romance, Fantasy, and Science Fiction. With a creative and imaginative mind following her around, it was no surprise her two passions collided and created her first published work, Destiny, book one in the Experimental Heart series.
Genre: Fiction > Sci-Fi/Fantasy
1. Destiny
"…Do you know what it’s like to kill without regret?"
Eira only knew one thing in life–to kill. Designed to be an emotionless killing machine of war she had no desire to be a puppet of another’s master plan. Escape was the only option. A normal, free life was the only goal. Labeled as a failure, she took the opportunity to run and was hunted. But destiny had other plans.
"…Do you know what it’s like to kill without being able to feel?"
A fateful mistake throws her in the path of a mysterious dragon, who makes an offer that is hard to refuse. Accept his help to gain her desired freedom or keep running with an eye over her shoulder.
"…Do you know what it’s like to live in hell?"
But, can she really trust him?
"…Didn’t think so…"
2. Pieces
"…You don’t fit in with your own…"
An outcast even among misfits, Eira never knew what it meant to belong. Steeling her heart, she thought she’d be safe–but every wall crumbles with time.
"…It can be a lie…"
With the rebellion under way, Eira fights for the freedom she has always craved, but a darkness looms in the shadows. More disturbing, the walls she once thought impenetrable, may not be as strong as she believes, when a certain Dragon awakens sensations long thought dead.
"…Why am I acting so oddly…"
Walls crumbling, will she be able to keep herself safe, or is she doomed to repeat the mistakes of her past?
"…I know my fate…"
3. Secrets
"…I fear nothing."
Hated for the circumstances of her birth, Eira chose to walk a life of solitude. She obeyed her maker’s orders and never looked back–never feeling or regretting; for if she did, she’d be marked as flawed.
"…It’s best if I’m alone."
Now a tortured soul with a bloody past, Eira keeps to herself and doesn’t let anyone in. But the past has a way of creeping up when you least expect it and no matter how much she runs, she can’t keep her biggest secrets hidden forever.
"…My heart will betray me."
Fire in one hand and a blade in the other, she now fights the maker she once obeyed for forty years–a darkness gnawing at her mind, threatening to consume her. With few to turn to, she finds herself seeking help from the one man she swore she would never get close to. But in doing so, her secrets quickly unravel, and she finds herself admitting one taboo thing…
"…I’m afraid…"
4. Exposed
"…What was so great about having those feelings."
Walking the thin line of life and death, Eira never knew what it meant to belong—until he came along. With him by her side, she focused on taking back her life from her creator. In doing so, she found kinship—a place to belong. But it was never meant to be, for he was a Dragon.
"…I was fine… Really."
To keep him safe, Eira let go of the one thing she’d secretly desired. She pushed away the pain and tried to focus on her goal, except going back to her old ways proved difficult. And fate…it has a way of getting what it wants.
"…It can’t be… Raikidan?"
Eira’s walls crumble again. Each trial—each step closer to freedom—her resolve weakens. And when faced with the ultimate test, it’s not just her she has to protect.
"…I will keep you safe this time…"
