I wrote The Five Trials for the sheer fun of it; I wanted to do whatever I wanted without having to worry about expectations or tropes. And to my surprise the book exploded out the gate, hitting #137 in the whole US Amazon store and receiving a bunch of great reviews.

Together they journey through the shadowy underbelly of Port Gloom in pursuit of bloody revenge, daring to face impossible odds and uncover the grim truth: not only the reason for the guild’s unnatural monopoly on crime, but why his guild master might have been justified in ordering his death after all.

Burning with a furious desire to crush his opponents, Kellik will return with his gorgeous rogues’ gallery of companions to attack the ancient city from all sides: using politics, assassinations, betrayals, and outright warfare, he’ll stop at nothing to ensure his father’s downfall.

4. Emperor of Shadows – Beware what you wish for. You just might achieve it. Kellik and his band have accomplished their goals, and now must reap their bitter rewards. Ruling Port Gloom is a vastly different enterprise from seeking to decapitate its government, and as the world begins to fall apart, he must decide what matters most: being the fair and just ruler or surviving to see the dawn. For the consequences of his sins are coming home to roost. A world destroying power is making its way to his city, and it will stop at nothing in its quest for vengeance.
