Overview: Maria Hammarblad is a Swedish author and bass player whose fascination with books started early. Before she could read or write, she made her mother staple papers together to resemble books. She drew suns in them and claimed they were “The Sun Book.” They were all about the sun. The four-year-old also claimed her existence on Earth was a mistake, the result of a horrible mix-up, and that her real family would come to bring her home to her own planet at any time. This didn’t happen, but her fascination with books and other worlds stayed with her. Besides novels, she also writes award-winning screenplays, enjoys photography, and works with animal rescue organizations.

0. Arrival
Taking a day to decompress and watch the ocean seems like the best idea Alexandra ever had. That is, until a bright dot in the sky turns out to be a crashing spaceship. Before she understands what’s happening a man in uniform approaches over the dunes, urging her to run. After surviving an explosion, seeing her new friend lift a car, and being interrogated by the FBI, it’s clear her vacation will not lead to a reduction in stress.
Adam is lost in time and space, separated from the world he knows by more than five hundred years. Luckily he meets Alexandra and she is willing to help him, but staying puts her in danger. He still finds himself unwilling to leave. Being an android, emotions never posed a problem for him before, but this woman and everything associated with her overwhelms his programming and clouds his judgment. Knowing he should go isn’t the same as doing it.
1. Brand New World
When Alexandra wakes up in an unknown environment, populated by a cat-like woman with a tail and a hologram of a rockstar, she knows she has to be hallucinating. Maybe she hit her head, or finally suffered that nervous breakdown. It doesn’t get any better from finding out she died and was taken into the future by the elusive Adam, whom she can’t remember, or from people telling her she’s on a spaceship.
The last year or so is gone from her memory, and she has no choice but to try to adapt. As days go by, her new environment becomes more and more unnerving. She finds herself helpless, and completely dependent on a man who isn’t even human.
2. High Gravity
the story picks up shortly after it left off in “Brand New World.” The main character Alex has come to terms with her new life on a starship in the year 2577, and reluctantly won both respect and admiration for her actions during an alien attempt to conquer the ship.
Little does she know a number of new trials are about to shake her world. Besides encounters with alien species and an unexpected relative surfacing, a fatal navigation error will test her relationships with both her android lover and her friends.
3. Adam and Eve
Alex thinks nothing more could possibly stand between her and the peaceful and secluded life she covets. There aren’t any aliens standing in line to meet her, no vengeful humans sneaking up on her, and no black holes anywhere in sight. She has found a home and a family, and nothing more could possibly go wrong. Right?
All she has to do before curling up in the sofa is to escort an unexpected visitor to the guest quarters until the Captain has the time to meet the newcomer. Should be a walk in the park…
4. Deadly Betrayal
To Alexandra, shore leave with her husband Adam is the best thing to happen for a long time and she isn’t thrilled when their vacation is cut short. Adam has been called back to their home on the Confederacy’s flagship, the Bell, and this is not a summon they can refuse. The large ship normally bustles with life, but now all civilians are gone and the long corridors are so empty they echo.
Things take a turn for the worse when the Bell is attacked from both the outside and within. Alex’s world is crumbling, and things that seemed self evident in the past become lethal and intricate mysteries she might not be able to solve.
5. Interstellar Conflict
Running away rarely solves any problems, but that doesn’t prevent Alexandra from trying. Feeling sad and defeated, she doesn’t care about the big picture with a galaxy on the brink of war, or about aliens taking over and controlling people’s minds. Her husband Adam hiding in a starship controlled by the enemy is a problem, but he went there willingly and she is determined not to care about that either.
Unfortunately, she may be able to run from home and family, but she can’t escape herself. And, turning her back to the world and its problems would be easier if her loved ones could refrain from throwing themselves in harm’s way.
6. Anguish and Hope
Adam always had a strong sense of duty, and when he feels obliged to accept command of the Palmetto, the starship’s name bothers him almost as much as going into war and being separated from his family. As time passes, he suspects the ship has a personal aversion to him. Systems break down just as he needs to use them and not even internal communications work.
To Alexandra, things could hardly get any worse than her husband disappearing, being declared missing in action, and eventually buried. Again. Moving on and looking forward seems like a healthy idea, but it’s more difficult than it sounds. Especially since an unknown enemy wants her dead, and will stop at nothing to see it happen.
