In the first book of the Ella and Owen series, the twin siblings are at odds. Owen is happy to stay in bed reading as he nurses his cold, but outgoing Ella wants an adventure. She finally convinces her brother to join her on a quest to find a wizard that will help cure Owen of his flaming cold, as well as add to his ogre toenail collection.
Owen quickly learns that the journey isn’t what his sister made it out to be. They run into a dragon-eating ogre, get caught in not one, but two cages, and have to outsmart an evil vegetable wizard, which is Owen’s worst nightmare (vegetables + wizards = NO FUN AT ALL!).
This early chapter book series has it all–humor, adventure, a dash of some gross-out stuff, and just the right mixture of sibling rivalry/love. Black and white illustrations on every page add to the enjoyment, with dragon details galore, making Ella and Owen’s world pop on each page.
02. Attack of the Stinky Fish Monster!: In this second book in the Ella and Owen series, we pick up right where book one left off–with the siblings splashing around in a lake, not knowing where they are. Once they find their way home, they are reminded that it’s their mother’s birthday. The twins head out on a new adventure in search of special ingredients in order to make her a cake. They end up being turned into newts and run into a stinky fish monster that wants to eat them! This fun romp will have kids laughing and turning the pages!
03. Knights vs. Dragons: In this third book in the Ella and Owen chapter book series, the siblings are on the wrong side of Fright Mountain–the side where there are castles and knights in shining armor. Although that may sound good and shiny, the truth is that these knights hate dragons!
Ella is the one who can’t keep away from the castle–she just wants a peek! But it’s Owen who gets them into a mess when he can’t keep his hands off a stinky treat and a group of knights corner them. A hilarious castle chase ensues, with the duo donning armor and escaping into the night–but the knights are still after them! After an ugly encounter with a troll for both Ella and Owen and the knights, the dragons end up helping the knights and saving the day.
